iPhone 4S - the deal you got

I honestly dont know what to do. I can do a mid-term upgrade costing around £240 to get out of my current contract, then go the 900min 18 month deal with the phone for free.

Or just get the phone sim free and go onto a SIMO after June when my current contract expires......

I cancelled my order so I could order it again via Quidco but the Three site keeps timing out at the last step. Anyone else had this?

Pre-ordered the iPhone 4S 32GB direct from Apple, and will look to pick up the cheapest Vodafone tariff with data that I can get (£15.50 according to the website). At the my usage levels this works out £40-50 cheaper (even with the £59 cash-back) when comparing the total cost of ownership over 24-months. Also personally I have never signed a contract longer than 18-months.

I have just called Orange as I am still in contract until July 2012 they offered:

£126 buy out fee
£99 for the iPhone 4S 16GB white on a new 24 month £36pm contract.

Over all I am happy as the tariff I am currently on is perfect as Magic numbers make up a huge chunk of my calls.

My iPhone 4 is worth around £350 hopefully which will cover the cost.

It's being delivered next Friday

Don't know if anyone has linked to this yet, but I found this interesting.

Guardian.

Yeah a lot depends on the size of tarrif you need. I only need 300 minutes max really so 600 on sim free for a tenner cannot be touched in contract when my total costs for the year are £720 with no tie in.

The real gains are made after 12 months when in theory they release another phone. I sell the 4s for around £350 and my next phone costs me £150, so I'm staying with the latest model each and every year for around £150 plus the £120 for my minutes and data. No waiting for the end of an 18 month deal or longer and you get rid of the phone when it commands a premium.

It's a lot to shell out for a just a phone but cheaper in the long run.

Last year I just sent a letter to vodafone asking for my PAC got a phone call the next day asking why. I said £10 at tesco for 500 minutes sim free and they beat it with 600. A work collegue has just done the same with them after buying an sg2 and they offered him the same but with 750meg of data and 750 with bt open world.

I'd hassle them myself but I only use 100 meg per month absolute tops.

I'm still having trouble with Three. This is my convo with one of their reps:

[Imy] Trouble ordering
[3 Rep] Hi Imy, welcome and thanks for showing your interest in Three.
[Imy] Hello 3 Rep
[Imy] I've tried pre-ordering the iPhone 4S 5 times now without luck
[Imy] I've tried both in IE and Firefox
[Imy] I've tried with 2 different cards
[3 Rep] I'll help you place the order and also help you with a special gift if you buy online today.
[Imy] Before each attempt I cleared my cookies
[Imy] At the end of Step 5 all I get is "Error Occured"
[Imy] even that's not spelt right
[3 Rep] May I know which deal are you looking to get?
[Imy] iPhone 4S 32GB Black - The One Plan
[Imy] Do you know what the problem is?
[3 Rep] May I also know which browser are you on?
[Imy] Like I said, I've tried both Firefox and IE
[Imy] both are on the latest version
[3 Rep] Mohammed, do you have safari browser?
[Imy] No, who the hell uses Safari?
[Imy] This is NOT a browser problem
[3 Rep] Sorry for the error on the website. Due to the launch of our new iPhone 4S, we have a lot of customers place the order at the same time, hence the orders are not going on to the thank you page. I would request you to place the order after 12 midnight as we won’t have a lot of customers buy the deals at that time.
[Imy] The message is explicitly being produced within the page on your website
[Imy] I did try till 1am last night
[Imy] So basically you're saying the website can't cope with the demand?
[3 Rep] There are many customers signing up for the iPhone 4 S at the same time so you get this error.
[Imy] So yes then
[3 Rep] To make your purchase a special one I'll give you a promotional code for a free accessories voucher worth £20, you can buy bluetooth headset, car charger, mobile cover, memory card, car kit or any accessories of your choice. Would you like to have the code?
[Imy] Sure, can't hurt
[Imy] Obviously I can't use it right now
[3 Rep] I can help you with the code for tomorrow so you can place the order later tonight.
[Imy] So what's the code?
[3 Rep] I'll help you with the code. Would you like me to check the coverage for you?
[Imy] It's been checked
[Imy] So what's the code?
[3 Rep] The code for today is HS08******
[3 Rep] You need to enter the code on the basket page that's step 1 of your order where it asks you for the code and click on update.
[3 Rep] The code for tomorrow is HS09******
[3 Rep] Three currently has 93% population coverage with high speed internet 3G services and 99.5% on talk/text all over the UK. We also have an online coverage checker on the below link. http://www.three.co.uk/Help_Support/Coverage
[Imy] and for Monday, HS10******?
[3 Rep] That's the cpde for Sunday.
[Imy] It's Saturday today
[Imy] I thought tomorrow (Sunday) was 09 code?
[3 Rep] Today's code is HS08****** and tomorrow's code is HS09******
[Imy] Ok thanks for your help

If I sounded arsey it's cuz that's the 2nd useless conversation I had with a script-follower in the space of 20 minutes. The first one told me ordering doesn't work in Firefox so I went away to clear my cookies and try in IE.

How have you got O2 prices for tarrifs and device? I was under the impression even the customer service guys didn't know yet?

Also may be interesting to add the sim only options to this (including the price of the phone outright)

02 are not doing sim only
just called and asked them

3rd attempt at "3" this morning went through ok.

£189 for the 32GB (£80 if quidco tracks- Not holding my breath tho), £35 pm unlimited everything(As good as).

Happy
