****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Im not saying its a bad phone, the hardware is very good. But if Samsung had used their own OS or used winmo like before, this phone would be useless.

What Im saying is that Samsung's software is crap and anyone who wants to defend their software is clueless.

I've had no problems with it so far and it works well, far better than their software for previous phones.

Still loving this phone, I love its media capabilities, big screen, good battery, fantastic camera, generous internal memory, the feel and the shape of it. Great value and i'm really happy after 6 months.

Even though the AOS bug is still ongoing i've been impressed with the speed of upgrades, much less hassle than HTC.

Funnily enough I only noticed this phone has noise cancelling the other day after making a call on a busy street in london, the gf said it sounded like i was in the office still :)

Just clicked on "check updates" in settings on my stock sgs2 and it's just downloaded and installed 2.3.5 :)

Got that glow thing instead of bounce now

How come your phone updated android when mine just updated the gingerbread build and I had to connect with Kies to upgrade android?

nevermind, you're on t-mobile.

Got mine from Vodafone if that makes a difference? Not sure if different networks release the update at different times

Merlin5, OTA updates depend entirely on what your carrier is pushing at the time. if you want the latest stock firmware you will have to download it and flash manually.

Merlin, you are on a different network. Now, the firmware on the phone ultimately decides what you see with kies. since phones from different networks ship with different firmwares, you aren't all going to see the latest firmware on kies at the same time. Like I have already tried to explain, you need to flash it manually if you want the latest when it's released.

I don't know if retailers are expecting sales to be hit by next weeks releases or not but the SGS2 Blk is down to £380.

If it gets to £350 this phone becomes a bargain.

You can never win with phones and technology. A better model always comes out a few months after which causes the prices to drop but then you miss out on the new phone with new features. I honestly regret going on Vodafone! I should have gone with Three. They're far better and their £35 all you can eat plan for the SG2 is probably the best deal on the market from what I've seen.

But if it gets to £350 that's a bargain, especially considering the new iphone isn't really much better. Although the new Galaxy looks to be pretty damn amazing!

Since updating to 2.3.4 the phone has been a lot better. The battery life has pratically doubled. Before my battery would be at around 50% just before I went to bed, now it's at around 75% everyday.

That's the one thing I didn't like about the Galaxy but now it's pretty much perfect!

Wonder when 2.3.5 will be ready.

Yep, I did it with Kies anyway and have 2.3.4. I think manual flashing with Odin sounds the better bet for future updates. From what someone on XDA said, I think I'll be worried to use Kies again. I had a couple of scary moments myself where it didn't work but I got away with it in the end.

However that person said "I choose not to use Kies as it has caused many problems in the past with all of my Samsung products.
I have had two 'semi-bricked' SGS's, a Galaxy Tab 7", and more recently an SGSII. For all I recovered them using Odin and updated them regularly, giving advice to those who were in peril from the likes of Kies.I despise Kies not just for myself but to the countless many who have been frustrated in the problems it has caused them and the countless hours I have taken in replying to their troubled posts.

If you use an aux cable to car multimedia system, will the mm system display the artwork and song information? I know this works with SD cards, not to sure about aux cables though.
