****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Looks like I'm sending my phone back already. . . only had it since Tuesday.

Theres a horizontal line of dead pixels which have just appeared from nowhere, I noticed it when I was watching the iPlayer earlier and it definitely wasn't there when I got it.

Really frustrating as I haven't dropped it yet so I have no idea how its just happened.

Well, I'm at a loss on how to pursue this at the moment, because I bought it from somebody (sealed), so there's no "retailer" to go through. Such a shame really cause it's a fantastic piece of kit and I waited so long to get it. . .

Here's a picture, because I have no idea how to describe it

house insurance maybe? I guess the original owner doesnt have insurance that covers it (long shot, i know). That sucks, you should always have some sort of insurance that covers your phone, imo.

Well it was somebodys contract upgrade (O2), which they didn't want, so if I can get in touch with them I should be able to get it sorted through O2. Surely it should be covered by some sort of manufacturer warranty anyway, I'm fairly certain it's nothing me as the end user has caused.

I do have phone insurance through my bank, I've just been too busy to get it updated to my new phone.

Oh, yeah, try samsung lol. if it's had custom firmware on it make sure you buy a usb jig and reset the counter before you send it though, or else they might refuse to replace it.

Which CF-root do I use for current 2.3.4 XWKI4? Do I go with CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_KI4-42-v4.2-CWM4.zip?

Edit: Went ahead and tried it and it works. Just dont know why there are 2 different KI4 CF-root

Cyanogen Mod 7.1 Released

Support for the Samsung Galaxy S II

http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cyanogenmod-7-1-released

Link on this page, or go through ROM manager!

Does this mean it is a "final" release?

I currently have the stock 2.3.3 firmware and most of my data is on a 16gb card. What is the easiest way for me to:

1) Backup everything (settings, SMS, apps, data etc)
2) Load CM 7.1
3) Be ale to change back to the 2.3.3 if I don't like it with all settings restored and no evidence of changes (for warranty purposes etc).

Samsung will repair this under warranty without issue I'd guess as it's a manu defect. You can try without proof of purchase, phone them up and say your friend gave it to you as a gift and he threw all the paperwork away. It's not like it could be out of warranty anyway :)

It's their first "stable" release, not final.

I'm just about to run out to uni so I can't detail everything you need to do, but this post will help.

In short:
You'll need to root your device so that you can install an app like Titanium Backup or MyBackup Pro (to backup all your app+data and other settings you might want)

To be able to root your device, you'll need to enter download mode and use ODIN to flash an insecure kernel

Once you're rooted you can also install Clockwork Mod, which allows you to make a full image of your phone from a modded recovery, so that you can restore it - much like restoring a PC with Arconis!

Hope that helps, I have to run :p

Are nandroid and TB (Titanium Backup?) on the Market and free?

TB has a free version, but to be honest i would buy it. well worth having and you use on future devices. Nadroid backup is like a imagie backup and you will gain access to that once rooted. have you rooted yet?
