****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

You can easily install is via ROM Manager though (free version). It doesn't permanently flash to the phone doing it that way though as it's just an update.zip so when you boot into recovery you have to choose to flash update, zip via the oot option so you can get into Clockwork Recovery.

It's better to have it flashed via Chainfire's root though.

you can't pick and choose with nan backup, you restore to how you were before. So i do recommend buying TB as its worth having the full version if you are gonna be getting into the rooting and romming game.

TB has a free version, but to be honest i would buy it. well worth having and you use on future devices. Nadroid backup is like a imagie backup and you will gain access to that once rooted. have you rooted yet?

Not rooted yet. I am going to fully read the details and maybe try it all tonight.

Will TB backup SMS messages as well? Does it backup everything to my PC (with a desktop piece of software) or to my micro sd card? The reason I ask is I have the 16GB SGS2 and 1 16gb card in it that is already half used, but no other micro sd cards.

Depends

Prices are see-sawing like mad atm. Once the prime comes out I think we will see sub £350 prices new.

i agree, well will let you know when it arrives mate.

OK mate, not sure if TB does SMS, as i use a free pc program called MyPhoneExplorer. also as mentioned a few posts back you can use a free app. So if you follow the XDA root guide which is a one step job you will gain access to nandroid backup which will take a snap shot of your system, like an image. You can only restore as a job lot. TB will let you pick and choose what you back up, apps and system setting wise, i fully recommend to anyone to buy rom manger and TB, for a few quid its worth having, i have used them on my HTC Hero, Desire, SGS2 and will on the nexus prime when it arrives. A good investment.

in regards to your memory card. i would just drag the contents to your desktop and backup both if you are worried. the inbuilt one would be at risk and the external one is pretty safe. saying that i have never had any issues and rooting and roming should not touch either, to be safe take a backup.

Screen goes black when I slide the slider to video mode. I suspect a full wipe would fix it but it's such a ballache.

what rom were u coming from? a full wipe is always needed from other roms, and i suspect if you came from a beta cm7 it would apply.

I've been using CM7 since nightly ~50 ish, I think at ~70 ish the vid cam issue started - the problem is well documented over at XDA but a lot of issues are being ignored with the pending release of ICS!

yes i had issues with force close after making any phone call. even after a wipe. i was using it promblem free from beta2 - beta34 and then the problem started. I guess a full wipe might sort, but as you know its a gamble and you have to reset all your apps and settings

No need to wipe from beta to full cm7 as the full release is no different than the incremental beta releases.

Edit: Hang on, does full release mean that devs can now code a BLN kernal?

No it doesn't. Not that it's needed with mobo player and mx player. I don't notice any performance and very little battery life difference with their decoders.

There is only one thing holding me back from switching at the moment and that's Samsung Dive. No other service allows you to remotely turn on GPS if a thief turns it off and track the phone using gps, wireless and ell networks like Dive does.

I'm in hope that a 3rd party will out a service that's as good though!

I might just make do without it though, after all, I managed fine without such a service on the Desire...although you can't predict when your phone might get nicked, it just happens :p

CM7 appears to have everything else, screenshot via power menu, brightness slider on notibar etc.

As much as i like cm7 , its great on the SGS but its taking its time getting to get to the same level on the SGS II. Im a fussy git but samsung based roms are the best atm still
