****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Just updated my phone to 2.3.4 stock. I looked at CF root and there doesn't seem to be a root for my phone. Has anyone rooted their 2.3.4 S2? I read somewhere that there's a way they can keep track of how many times you've rooted your phone - is this true? Thanks

You are looking at the wrong bit. 2.3.4 is the Android version you are on.

Go to Settings > About Phone > Kernel Version

Yes there is a counter, But that can be reset using a USB jig.

Bough the S2 last week, updates to 2.3.3 through Kies, was trying to enable the dive feature but I can't seem to find it anywhere? also registration thru the samsung page leads nowhere as well.

I've just ordered one of these beauties yesterday - should be with me today or Saturday!

I've been told it will be T-Mobile branded though - what's the easiest and safest way to unbrand it? I've got a Desire at the moment, but I've never got into the rooting thing before so not sure what to do! I presume that involves rooting and flasing with a generic firmware? Is there an up-to-date guide to the best way of doing this? I've seen loads but they are all different so not sure which is best! Not interested in custom firmware etc yet, just stock only unbranded.

To activate Dive go to Location and Security in Settings and enable Remote Controls.

You can add (and create) a Samsung account in Accounts and Sync in settings.

You just want to flash a stock firmware, probably KI8, using Odin. You can download the firmware from here, it also tells you what to do in that thread :).

Before you do anything in that guide though, instal Samsung Kies on your computer as this installs the USB drivers required for Odin. After the install make sure any processes for Kies are closed in Task Manager and disable Kies on startup in MSConfig as Kies running while using Odin can mess up the flash :).

I've just noticed that if it's dark and the backlight is as low as it goes, there's a slight brown discolouration on the left hand side of my screen. It's all down one side and it fades out as if it's a burn mark. It's about 1cm wide, maybe a bit more..

It's not really noticable unless I'm looking at a blank white screen in pitch darkness, but I can just about see it on the android market too.

The phone is only a couple of months old, should I leave it and see if it gets worse or is this covered by warranty or a known fault? Considering the screen is supposed to be really good, it's a bit irritating.

my sister has that yellow shade on the left side of her phone too - I saw it when I was browsing the new market.

If your not happy get it exchanged - my sister is not bothered in the slightest :D

I find it comical, a company that's devoted to doing things differently, who's tag line is "think different" yet they replicate another OS feature almost exactly!

They could easily have done it differently!
