X-Factor 2011

Ok I just do not understand why the judges can't see Frankie cannot sing. He can't. He does the whispery thing people who can't sing do. Gary Barlow has gone down so much in my estimations because he's just so blatantly lying. It's ridiculous.

Even if she sorts out the fact she doesn't sing all that well, she has to address the fact that sings in such a broad accent that she makes it unlistenable.

As ever, beauty is in the eye... ok, ear of the beholder. I suspect Janet's coaches are encouraging her to emphasise her accent in a way which was less blatantly obvious in the original audition. However it still adds a great "flavour" to the songs, as many of us appear to agree.

Whether that flavour will get a bit repetitive is a different matter. But I'm guessing it won't unless this series goes to penalties and lasts until Easter.

As for Janet's ability to sing... well, much though I hate to agree with Gary Barlow, and although I like nothing more than being a contrarian under normal circumstances, I have to agree with him when he says he believes whatever she sings. That's what marks out a great singer for me, not whether she can hit every note perfectly. That'll come in time (I've got socks older than her!) and she has the same kind of vulnerable talent which impressed me so much when I first saw Laura Marling on Later for the first time.

Mind you, anyone who can go through a week like that and not sob when the pressure's released is a far tougher cookie than me. So I may be on the wrong track with the vulnerability thing.

Anyway, last year I stopped paying attention to X-Factor after Gamu went out; hers was the only voice to reach out to me. This year I'm sticking with Janet and Scouse Lad as the only people who've persuaded me to listen to all their performances without hitting the FFWD button. I'm hoping at least one of them goes all the way. Heck, I may even break my rules and vote for one of them at this rate.

This week I've even tempted to vote for Kitty. Not because I want her to win, but because I don't want her to be the first one to go out on a public vote. Her eye make-up may scare me, but Johnny's voice gives me nightmares, and I value my sleep. :-)

They are all pretty rubbish to be fair., though to be honest I have been avoiding it and only watch if the missus forces me.

I like the crazy old tranny bloke the most though. Good voice and would be a shame if they turn him into the gimmick act just there for people to laugh at.

Worst one is that lass who stayed in over the Boro bird, she's rubbish and has no personality, I dobt get it

I'm sure they've already done that. But he does need to stop in. The rest of the show is mostly so mundane that when "here's Jooooonnnnnnyyyyy" comes along, it's like a breath of fresh air. Even though I have to watch with a grimace on my face.

I didn't watch last night and I've already given up on this series. I liked the new judge format and everything, it's just that this year, I can't see anyone who I think is a good singer, and I don't have anyone that I like and want to win. (Apart from Sammy, but she's a club singer, not a recording artist).

There are, however, a few of them that I HATE and I ended up getting angry watching it last week, with Frankie "I love myself" Cocozza, that irritating Kitty, Janet "I wear no shoes to keep myself grounded" Devlin and ****** Johnny Robinson... I ended up having a right rant the other day about it, people at work were ******* themselves laughing at me.

I think it's better for me if I just don't watch!

Janet "I wear no shoes to keep myself grounded" Devlin

Even as someone who'd like her to win, I must admit I winced a bit when she said that. It sounded too prepared... or at the very least, painfully clichéd. But then she is very young, and may not realise just how well trodden that path is.

I also balance that with her reaction after the second audition, when she was asked how she thought she'd done. "I don't want to say my opinion, but I liked their reaction" was a very natural and endearing reply. Which is why it went down well with everyone there. That kind of nature and the voice are a powerful package.

If I'm honest, I think she could walk this, whether she wears shoes or not. She appeals to such a wide demographic that the others are always going to be playing catch-up unless she has some really bad weeks.

I say weeks because she could easily survive one really bad week on the sympathy vote. Only the fact that she's a clear favourite among the judges is against her. Brits love an underdog. :-)

Mind you, I have a long history of picking losers, so I should probably be sticking up for Johnny instead.
