IT is one thing I would never go anywhere near, sounds soul destroying. Hopefully looking to get employed by one of the big banks in some analytical job, perhaps risk assessment, when I get out of uni (maths degree).

IT is not something I ever would want to do to earn a living, simply because the joy I get from it as a hobby (which it is to me now) would disappear...and also the profession that I am in pays far better!

80K+?

A lot of I.T specialists in oracle, Java EE, or sap can end up on that much with serious experience under their belt. I did contract work that paid very high for my age. It can go way past 80k+ if you become self employed in those areas.

Depends what path you take.

Very few people have stamina to rake up that much experience in those areas, before they bail out and become a general I.T manager or something.

Working as a developer can be soul destroying, in social terms. It's ok for the first few years, then you get a mid life crisis fast.

Very few non-devs understand "flow"(psychology), and don't understand why you get moody when they break it and just think your an un-social bunch =P
I know of a few accountants that understand it though.

Network Administration.

Pretty basic stuff though unfortunatly, we have a central hub that deals with replacing switches and re-configuring them.

I basically mantian it, patching, problem solving. Though the amount of patching I have done recently is becoming a bore. Had a contractor come out recently to do an audit on our system, he got paid 11k for the month for a job I do on a daily basis.

Self-employed is the way for the big bucks.

I'm currently at College level (national diploma in software development) but I forgot what C++ looks like as i havent used it since i left college like 6 years ago.

Now im just a general hardware nerd and hoping to get my MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional) and then head over to our Server Support department. but I also like the look at our unix team so might have to stop off over there first.

:) - I had a tour round their department about a month ago. Awesome department! The work they do is truly fascinating! And it really opens up your eyes to the information that is actually sitting on people's machines

I just gotta wait for a position to come up :)

Business Intelligence Consultant with a technical architecture focus, not one of these report writer types.

It's good fun, I get to play with brand new software before anyone else does and visit new places each week.

On the down side those new places are often in the middle of nowhere and the work is pretty stressful.
