Jaguar S-Type 3.0 V6 - what to check / look out for?

Mull it over?

Get it bought man! (Just out of curiosity, did you turn up to view it in the 911?)

Nope went in 306, as I was trying to barter down.

Just checked MOT history online and well the wear and tear suspension items these cars eat through have all been replaced:-

1000 miles ago this was done for MOT:-
Offside Track rod end ball joint has excessive play (2.2.B.1f) **DANGEROUS**
Offside front to rear Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Nearside front to rear Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)

15000 miles ago these were done for MOT:-
Both front wishbone, suspension arms and balljoints.

So as it's had the main wear and tear items done and due to condition I've told the guy it's a deal.

Like someone mentioned a good one of these under 1k is rare, so got a good buy and when I've finished with it well it shall be a decent clean car. :)

A picture (not actual car) but same colour/wheels

VFM that, can't do much better really. Omegas go for similar, but then you wouldn't have a Jaaaaag I suppose :p

You'll no doubt need 4 new tyres though if the previous owner didn't even bother with servicing.

Not generally you can't, no. He's done very well indeed and I rather suspect it doesn't look quite like that immaculate one in the picture.

The cheapest possible S-Type on Autotrader right now is £1k, and the first page or so is usually junk anyway.

Checked them, three had 4-5mm and one had 2-3mm. Half decent tyres are £80 each for this which compared to the £400 per each rear on the 911 is cheap.

I think you will be surprised once I've given it a good polish and wax. Exterior is spotless on it, interior however does have 130k milesvof wear and not worn as well as equivalent german car would have done, but exterior is very clean. :)

Basically £1k you get a Jag with 4 new tyres.

Where do I sign up? :p

As long as it don't explode the cost is

Car - £700
Tax - £120 for 6 months
Tyre - £80
Oil, filters, plugs, gaskets - £100
Labour / Service - £0 (Do it myself)
Polish / wax / valet - £0

So yep 1k in total for what with the above be a nice classy car.

Some good points I noticed:-
Front heated windscreen
Jaguar multi speaker sound system with 6 CD changer
Parking sensors
Awesome soft ride quality
Smooth / quiet engine and surprisingly quick for a barge
Climate control

They are pretty quick actually - 0-60 comes up in 6.9 seconds. Bonkers thirsty for what it is though, it has a whopping 270g/km of CO2 emissions and 25mpg combined! From a manual six pot!!

Yeah the current owners average was 23.4mpg but that was mostly short journeys as his trip to work was 14 miles there and back.

Whereas he was made redundant, now has a new job but it means a 70+ mile round trip. So he wants something far less thirsty.

Still I average 17-18 in the 911 which I'm fine with, so its gonna be no worse than the 911 :)
