The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Level 16 and still not triggered the main quest yet. Starting to think I really ought to though now so I can start dragon slaying.

I started out as a hack n' slasher Nord but over time I've just found myself killing more and more with the bow. There's pretty much nothing I've encountered so far that I can't take down with arrows and if something does get to me my health is high enough for me to be able to take a few knocks (that includes a couple of giants).

My only concern is that I may have become too much of a generalist. I've got points in pretty much every skill tree apart from 2 handed and destruction but I'm not really good enough in any of them to progress higher up. Following multiple styles means I'm levelling up faster than my individual skills so I have nowhere to put points. Guess I'll just save them until my skills catch up.

Yea, installing patch now, forgot i have to restart steam for the bloody thing to update some games :D

Hopefully it will work when thats done, as updating the drivers for my gfx made no difference.

quick question, i have an i5 2500k a gtx 580 and 8gb ram, should i be able to run the game with everything maxed out ? when it does the autodetect thing it sets them to high rather than ultra.

What patch do you speak of?

Smithing 80 but only killed 2 Dragons? Do you have no skills in other trees?

Ive seen quite a few dragons, but they rarely get interested in attempting to eat me :( Trying to aim an arrow at a moving dragon with a pad is a chore on its own! I've mostly been grinding, selling and smithing and explored quite a bit.

I forgot to mention that I'm still having issues with key binds in the game.
For example, in Whiterun there is a mission given to me by an olde lady to find her kidnapped son - possibly the work of Battleborns. So I sneak into a house and find a book, which contains evidence, however I am required to pick it up.

Press E as the game prompts me, and sweet FA happens. My 'Activity' key, which E represents (iirc) is bound to End on the keyboard. If I re-define the key to anything else, it works.

Just when I thought I'd gotten past the key binding issues from BF3, this game comes along and gives me greif. Apparently a fix is in the works for the next patch though.

You'll get it somewhere along the line.

I chose to go imperial at the start and wandering around Skyrim was some NPC's holding a prisoner and carting him off somewhere, I killed the people trying to take him off and then set him free and it gave me the quest to join Stormcloak, so I assume there is a way also to go Imperial if you chose Stormcloak at the start.

I went stormcloak at the start and came across these guys too, only problem was the stupid prisoner ran in front of my 2H axe of pwnage and died along with the guards :(

Got the game last night at my local Tesco for £29.99 including the LE map.. Nice quick install (Unlike BF3 ;)) and played a couple of hours, mostly just reading the ingame books :D It's like a mixture of Fallout + Oblivion.. They have reused the Fallout engine have they?

Straight away fell in love with the landscape and with the soundtrack in the background, it gives a truly epic atmosphere.. this is what Bethesda are good at!..

Im having a weird issue with the voices. If i look straight at someone talking, I can hardly hear them.. I have to move chars head to the side in order to hear them in my headphones.

2 dragon moments for me:

I was doing a quest to close a rift somewhere randomly, and magical abominations were pouring out of it, spiders and bears all around. A dragon comes along, crash lands next to them all and proceeds to kill off the abominations and the creatures while I closed the rift up. I thought "Wow, a dragon helped me, maybe it's friendly", so I ran near to it and it grabbed me in it's mouth and flung me against a tree.

Another dragon spawned near a giants camp which proceeded to flame 2 giants, I was looking around for it in and saw a giant fly across my screen and smash into a rock, before it got up and began sprinting back towards it and started to mash its skull in with it's club... Then both turned to me and started sprinting at me, never pegged it so fast before.

On the topic of exploration, am I the only hardcore saddo that refuses to use a horse or carriage and walks everywhere to soak in the sights of Skyrim? ;)

Ive gotta say, I bought a horse, 1000gold.

What a waste.

He died.

Because he was an idiot.

No more horses for me, I'm gonna stick to walking.

They need to implement a system for tying your horse up, or make him less inclined to attack enemies, as he just gets himself killed.

I had a problem with it too, apart from I finished off all the NPC's and a troll came behind me and smashed the prisoners head in, and then proceeded to taunt above his corpse. I had to reload my save

Just steal them :p But I haven't used them for more than 5 minutes, once you've discovered enough locations you can fast travel everywhere and cut walking to a minimum anyway.

I had this at first, turned out it wasn't the game, I had stereo speakers but had the sound card thinking it was quadrophonic, so it was pumping out head-on sounds to speakers that weren't there.

I had to dig a bit for the setting mind you, Win7 and the realtek driver both had settings for number of speakers

Cheers. I will give that a look later.. Only game I know that does it at the moment.

Agree in general. Shadowmere on the other hand is hard as nails.

I found a horse standing calmly next to the body of a bandit. No idea if the horse belonged to the bandit or what happened. The horse wasnt marked as stealing when I took it, but after I rode it to the dungeon I was heading towards it immediately turned and trotted off. Come back horsey! :(

Got to say I've found horses to be a little annoying too. If they happen to get hit by an arrow for instance they'll run off into the fray to fight everything and anything, if I start a fight and they don't get hit they just run off and you have to wander around to find them, silly buggers.

Oh and they die way too easily. Last time it happened it was off a minor hill (that you'd usually easily survive walking) and both me and the horse just died.
