Orange Monte Carlo

the MC is really £109+10 top-up as most orange customers will be with orange for 3 months and tbh getting it over phone ant a big deal.

so for £109+10 i cannot see a better phone in this area, though if the phone is being charged at £160 then ofc there are other phones which are better, but for £109 i cannot see a better phone.

by the way a budget phone isnt more than £200 where in the world is £200 budget

any idea on how long till people post on how to unlock this phone for free??

Atm very interested in getting this for £109 off orange sinse i been with them for a while just wondering how easy to unlock so that i can stick my own sim in it.

if not il go with the hawei phone from CPW at £170 but id rather get monti carlo for 109 if possible, it not like the hawei is worth the extra £60 is it now?

Bought one today, got 10% student discount from the gf, plus you get a £25 pre paid debit card to spend on what you want, so worked out (inc £10 top up) £118 all in inc discounts.

Looked around the net for the Huwaei (sp?) 8800 but no one seems to have, also the same with the Acer.

This will be rooted and unlocked asap, just charging it atm, but first impressions, for a phone of this price, is IT IS BIG!

Update, it's pretty damn amazing, the screen is massive. Have installed launcher pro which has gotten rid of most of the Orange branding, and above all, is not laggy in the slightest.

As soon as the sim free ZTE Skate is launched later this month, custom roms and the ability to unlock to any network will become available.

Keep an eye out here http://android.modaco.com/forum/542-zte-skate-skatemodacocom/

Update, have installed Clockwork Mod and flashed the rom to Cryanogen 7, on Android 2.3.5. It doesn't unlock the sim, but removes all of the Orange bloatware and allows for overclocking.
Have had mine up to 1000mhz from the 800mhz standard so far, with no noticable detriment to the battery life...

Yep... I unlocked mine last weekend and it is working absolutely fine. I'm really pleased - I took a punt on it a few weeks back with a quidco offer and had started to wonder whether I needed to wait the 3 months for an Orange unlock as it seemed to be defeating people that were trying to unlock it.

Wish the battery life was just a bit better though, it's lasting a full day but I wish it were 2 days. I'm coming from a cheapo Nokia that lasted 1-2 weeks though, so maybe my expectations are unrealistic for a smartphone! (Yes, I've calibrated the battery - didn't make a lot of difference).

I have just bought the MC......

I got a free money box and large pair of over the head type of headphones and some other stuff in a goody bag (well a big box actually) from Orange. I paid £130 for it inc £10 topup.

I have unlocked the phone, rooted it and installed a custom ROM along with CWM.

It is a real worthy upgrade from my trusty SF and my big fat fingers are more suited to the 4.3" screen. The camera is great with a flash and everything seems to work a treat.

These are the headphones....

I'm in the process of deciding what phone to get my sone for Christmas and I came across this phone in the Amazon black Friday deals. Sim free it's over £200 but I can get the Orange version for £120 plus the free stuff.
I want to use it on 3 ( only network that do 3g here ) so should I buy a sim free version or go with the Orange and unlock it ?

or...

One from orange for £120 (and unlock it) and get a stack of free stuff

Seems a no-brainer for me, providing that you are comfortable with the unlocking process. I unlocked two and its fine providing that you thoroughly read the thread over at Modaco.

:p

I'll see what price Amazon sell it at this afternoon, can't see it being near the Orange price though.

I've never unlocked a phone before but from what I've read it's pretty straight forward as long as the steps are followed properly.
