The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Can people explain how they're playing the game?

Mages?

Warriors?

Sneaky sneaky?

Mixes? I'm really interested in how other people are playing this :)

I have three characters, which i switch between as i don't want to mix tonnes of perks and would rather go pure.

Warrior - Sword/Board or 2Handed
Mage - Pure Magic
Rogue - Leather, Bow, Dagger with Backstab and big sneak damage.

Sneaky archer. I sneak everywhere, it takes me ages to clear dungeons because I rely on the first hit and remaining unseen, but I enjoy taking my time, literally "dungeon crawling". :p On the plus side, I have range, and I have sneak crits, and very rarely even get touched by an enemy.

I have a couple of daggers to fall back on if I run out of arrows, or get disarmed. I've not focused on magic at all, but I do plan on getting enough points in Illusion to use Invisibility effectively.

I'm wearing Thieves Guild armour + Krosis mask, and using an upgraded Ancient Nord Bow which I enchanted to do 10 points of fire damage per hit. I also apply poisons to every sneak shot, I can one-shot most of the regular enemies when all these things are taken into account.

Ok I need some help, I'm either being incredibly stupid or the game is broken.

My problem is this, I like the "idea" or ward spells, they are mage v mage ability, cool, block spells with 1 hand attack with the other.

In practice however, this doesn't work for a few reasons.

1. Enemy mages use them as well.
2. Enemy mages cast them instantly.
3. Enemy mages wards can not be broken.
4. Enemy mages never run out of mana.
5. My ward brakes if an enemy mage so much as coughs on it.
6. I get stunned whenever it breaks.

Now I know I could probably get better wards by speccing Restoration but Restoration can go **** itself, I'm a Destro/Conjure mage, end of.

It's insane, I can spam fireballs on an emeny mage who it should one shot but as soon as I do, it instantly puts up a ward and becomes invincible whilst spamming me with its own puny spells.

I tested this recently on a Novice Necromancer, I'm level 23 for reference, it absorbed 12 Fireballs before it died and that was only because it stopped using its ward to run up to me and spam the frost version of flames.

The only ways around this I have found are Runes, as they seem to bypass wards, and my Frost Atronarch. Neither of which are particularly elegant solutions.

Restoration is one of the most important skill trees you can invest in imo, and I don't use wards. That's not to say you shouldn't, but you can't expect to challenge tougher enemies with only the most basic ward at your disposal.

Edit. That being said. I started off as a destruction mage, but ended up being a battlemage again who just heals and uses ironskin. I just couldn't close enough damage using pure magic.

I've not had a lot of time to play so far, but I am now level 6 and seem to be concentrating on restoration, armouring and single handed weapons.

Still think the game is amazing, so much better than Oblivion.

Mixed.

Play as a mage throw fireballs at them (usually kills them) If they get too close, go onto favourites and change into light armour and a warhammer. Haven't met much that can survive it yet.

Still playing as a warrior, but with equal shares in block, 2h, 1h and archery. Min for each of them is 65 now. Level 40 at the moment and got my **** handed to me earlier by an elder dragon which basically 2 shotted me. Didn't have any healing potions on me and I was on flat land with no cover so didn't stand a chance lol.

I'm a bit stuck finding a route to High Hrothgar and the Greybeards. I'm at White River Watch having just cleared that area. High Hrothagar looks like it's right up in the snowy mountains which I'm sort of at, but it's all very sheer and I don't think it's possible to climb it?

Theres a village at the bottom of the path to it, I can't remember its name now, but its got a saw mill, a river, a tomb thingy (where I am at now) a pub and not much else.
Go explore :)

Ah thanks :). Could you be referring to Mixwater Mill or perhaps Riverwood?

Was this game ever tested to be appropriately difficult? The difficulty spikes are outrageous. I've had to tone down the difficulty several times now after trying and trying again and again to kill those 4 NPCs at the start of the cave in the companions quest to kill the Left-tenant holed up in that fort. Every time that fella comes at with me a two handed mace and becomes a living wrecking ball and I've ****all to say about it.

I'm finding it stupidly easy to kill most things with my spec. 1 handed with a mace and fast healing that restores stamina also, plus my shouts and i can take most things down without using any enchantments or potions. Completed most of the main storylines now but still lots to do. Played 76 hours allready though :S

Anyone completed "Blood on the Ice" yet? Mines bugged...

(Spoiler tags not working - needless to say, I've got a filthy resident in my house!)
There are a lot of complaints about that quest, seems to be one of the buggiest. I can't even start it because I completed the Dark Brotherhood first and it seems to make the quest impossible to start and thus not being able to buy a house in Windhelm.

You'll be wanting to go Ivarstead, which is east of Riverwood on the other side of the mountain. From the village there is a path leading up to High Hrothgar, there's also a quest you can do from the village to go up there, so you might as well do that while you're there.

I'm a mage but I use destruction and archery together. When I'm travelling from A to B I use my horse for long distances if I haven't been there before otherwise I quick travel from town to town, but if I'm travelling somewhere that isn't long distance I just run on foot because horse gets killed and does my headin plus it's annoying to keep getting off your horse and back on to fight mobs like dragons and collect ore from mines etc.

As for damage I usually try use my bow from a distance, it's pretty much overpowered and I only put 3 points in it so far for the +60% damage and made sure it had +15 fire enchant, althought sometimes use the soul enchant if I need some souls.

Once they get close I usually switch to fire flames because its a low maner spell, so anyone who is trying to kill me up close with a sword I use fire flame spell.

If I'm fighting a caster/mage type I usually try stay my distance, I've come across some really hard ones so far and I've died a few times and the only way I could kill them was to use fireballs/firebalts from distance.

I try to keep it 50% bow 50% destruction spells.

I dont really like 1h, 2h or shields or anything like that. Haven't put any points into 1h, 2h, block or anything like that.

Also sometimes with mages/casters I like to use sparks and spark bolt type spells because it does damage and take their's mana/magicka.

Most of time when using spells, even thought I prob bought like 20 spells I only use around 6, some for close quaters and some for long range, fire, frost and shock, thats it.

Oh also, I got about 6 shouts at moment and I use the fire breathing one, it does epic damage to normal mobs and dragons, its great. It takes out most mobs in dungeons in one single hit or maybe I shoot them once with bow and then wait until I got like 3-5 mobs stood infront of me and then breath fire on them all, it's awesome.

Yeah, just cleared the lost knife hideout and followed a really long and winding path up the mountain from there to where I am now which is Ivarstead. Then minimised to check this thread and saw your reply. Just killed my first troll on the way too :)

Made me some Crafting gear: Helm, Chest, Gloves, Ring and Neck with 4x25% Alchemy and 4x25%Smithing between them. Thinking I might do up alchemy so I can craft some epic enchanters potions.

Also thought, that since I can get free destro spells from my gear, what is the point of getting the last two perks in destruction to half the cost of the spells? :)

I went with a full on tank, using full heavy armor and 2-handed Battleaxe. Never did find anything better than my skyforge fully upgraded axe :(
