iPhone 4? 8-9 Hours of browsing?

One thing the iphone has going for it is the stellar battery life. For me, the extra screen real estate is worth the sacrifice in battery life. As long as I can get through the day with my usage I'm happy.

//EDIT: beaten to it!

I knew it was quite a lot better, but that is quite a difference! Still, 5 odd hours is fine and I do care about the idle times, because if your battery hardly drops when the phone is idle, that makes a big difference.

I guess I just expect idle battery to easily last a long time, but maybe I'm just used to iOS.

My 3GS battery is well over 2 years old and currently at 59% battery after 3 days of standby.

On wifi yes. That's the average in battery tests I've seen online for the iP4. For example the Anandtech review:

Also to add to this, this is what engadget say

Battery life is excellent. While we only managed to squeeze about five hours and 15 minutes from our battery rundown test (where we play a looped video starting from a full charge), it matches what we saw with the Droid RAZR, which features a similar battery and processor. Note that we switched video players since our usual app misbehaves in Ice Cream Sandwich. The 1,750mAh battery fared significantly better in our battery usage test (where we use the device normally until it shuts down), lasting an impressive 28 hours. Other than watching videos, it's unlikely most people will have to worry about running out of juice with the Galaxy Nexus.

iPhone 4S gets 8 hours for the video looping test they have

Is that with relatively moderate use? Screen time?

It sounds similar to the iPhone 4 battery, which would be pretty amazing if so, considering the screen...

Moderate use, 2-3 calls 10 messages maybe 40 mins internet and playing of course, the screen has been on 32%.

That sounds fairly positive, though "use the device normally" isn't very informative to me when they don't state what it is normal for them. Is it the same as normal for me? No idea.

Looking forward to the Anand and GSM reviews as they should have a bit more detail. I'm sure battery will be fine though.

Yep sure, my point was positive. That is about standard for android phones and not something to be worried about.

Not really a surprise when you take into account the difference in screen size

Of course again, it's something I expect people to know. As well as the fact the omap 4460 runs at 1.2ghz while the 4S runs at 800-900mhz (do we know exactly yet?), and hence probably at a lower voltage.

edit:

anandtech says ~800mhz

RE: Web browsing benchmarks.

Safari caches web pages very aggressively. Scripted browser results don't indicate real world usage, it ends up loading most 'page refreshes' from memory rather that hitting the wiFi/cellular modems (as Anandtech pointed out they'll be updating their web browsing suite soon)

Mango's web browser also does this and to a lesser extent the custom HTC Android one.

Take 2-4 hours off those results for real world usage with full wifi/modem activity.

Also you need to take in to consideration scroll/zoom activity, this can have a big impact for those who moving around web pages a lot (esp for stock Android)

Well another day down, still no dispatch email from 3. Staff can't tell me for sure if it will be sent out tomorrow or not and advise to just wait for the email. Can't believe I ordered this on the 16th and am still waiting.

That's terrible service.

Got mine form a 3 store and they had only recieved 3 in total and mine was the last they had.
I was told they were recieving more stock on Tuesday but i dont know if that was true or not.
If the stores are getting at least some you would imagine they have stock for web/phone orders.

edit to say ...im also loving 3's all you can eat data, feels so good after being stuck with 500mb/pm for the last 18 months with Orange on my Desire :)

It seems that I am 3's lowest priority, people who have ordered after me seem to be getting theirs, I'm getting well tired of waiting. Its been a week and a half now and I'm just starting to loose interest.

Looks like my HTC Desire it going to have to keep trooping on for a little while yet.
