*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Other than the textures being a bit low res I think the graphics are great. The UI is pretty bad though they really need to do something with it. Voice acting and dialogue I think are great but after a while you can notice the "generic" voice over reply when you respond to people but thankfully it's not that common.

How on earth is this game causing more stress on my card than BF3? Lawl.
Pretty sure that Vsync option is broke, so it's uncapped FPS.

Okay, I can't tell, are people just randomly ignoring how good or bad it really is, purely because its Star Wars?

Graphics aren't the be all and end all for me, but it looks god damned awful, I don't mind playing WoW now (well I don't play it and have only played it a bit here and there) but if it looked comparitively as bad now as it did on release, I wouldn't have.

Its got that Champions Online, bland, flat, generic, horrible look. Its got a horrible interface, just, it seems utter rubbish at the start.

I thought going on people talking about Kotor it might be something like that, its not.

The strength was supposed to be voice acting and dialogue, so far its been embarrassingly tame/generic stuff, story has been barely existent, you start, you're about to train, go off kill 10 lame guys who aren't dangerous, story progresses almost instantly to foiling an evil plot, that was basically pathetic.

As someone else said, well i'm about 20 mins in and I'm skipping all conversation for generic stupid missions. "why not prove yourself capable of commanding an army......... by beating these 3 pathetic low mechs?"

From the stupid kiddie speech bubbles so the entire style, it feels dumbed down and "kiddy" rather than a real game. Everything about champions online was worse than City of Heroes, literally everything, and this is yet another MMO that is following that dumbed down MMO path.

Absolutely and utterly disappointed so far. :(

Yeah they should really make you fight 48 Ragnaros', that'd make it a bit better.

I'm far from a Star Wars fan and I think it's rather excellent so far. Sure, it's going to need improvements but I'm sure it will get them.

Could some1 tell me what settings they are using and on what gpu + cpu, currently looking at the:

Gtx460
Rad 6850
Rad 6870
i5 2500

Thanks :)

im
amd1055t
4gb mem
460GTX

all ingame settings maxed and hitting 60fps with vsync on most of the time and only getting around 60% gpu usage so i guess if i turn vsync off i would get 100fps or so

How on earth is this game causing more stress on my card than BF3? Lawl.

Running at 75C

BF3 65C

Madness!
it seems either poorly coded or unooptimised for what it is really...

I love the omg i have to kill another 10 things moaning club...its an MMO you grind or quest thats it thats the way quests work, kill something, collect something, gather something blah blah

I went and stood next to a group of 3 guys, and it took them a while just to get me to half health, 10 seconds later they are all dead. What happened to MMO's, I remember the beginning of Lotro when it was actually difficult, group quests meant group quests or very rarely you could do a say lvl 16 group quest when you were level 20-21 or something. Its been dumbed down to the point of being so easy its boring.

Where did I say the fight had to be impossible, any difficulty at all makes the game a challenge....... no challenge, no game, just running around pressing a button over and over again.

I'm bored to tears and I'm not even lvl 5 yet. The world is abysmal for a game launching at the end of 2011. Champions online was shocking what, 2 years ago, 3, I have no idea when that came out. It felt like a neutered version of a game, and this feels the same.

As yet there isn't a single redeeming thing about it besides being Star Wars, its the new style of game, generic, inoffensive, utterly worthless with no style, made for the masses, easy as pie.

BigBruiser, its not the fact that its kill 10 things, its an MMO so it has to be like that, firstly , where is that law written? Secondly, if you had to go kill 10 guys, and there was the faintest chance you might actually die, if there was the merest hint of a challenge, if the enemies weren't dull and stupid and the area/world they sit in wasn't so ruddy awful.

Fighting those starter guys I've got more chance of dying in real life than against them, unless I fall asleep in the chair and fail to attack at all...... which playing that, is a distinct possibility.

Can someone honestly, and I'll not mock your opinion(maybe) tell me what is GOOD about it.

For me, crap combat but awesome story, more than okay, crap story but awesome combat, more than okay, crap combat and crap story, and crap world, and a decade out of date graphics, and awful quests, ......... not okay, not even close to okay by me.

I got to lvl 6 and decided to uninstall it.

You can get to level six in under and hour; way to give the game a chance! Didn't even get off the tutorial world (starter world).

I do agree with the graphics comments though, more so around optimisation - I like the style, but it does feel unoptimised - this is the 4th build for me and it hasn't got an awful lot better between them so not sure it'll be any different for launch!

It is the starter world though - as you progress it is much more difficult even with the companion to assist you; why would they want to make it so tough from an early level - at least get to Level 10 off the starter world and choose and advance class!

I haven't uninstalled it, but I've stopped playing and gone back to playing something else.

I think if this wasn't Star Wars we would be slating it by now.

Framer ate is shocking. They've disabled Ultra Textures and AA in the Beta. I can only imagine how bad the frame rates would get once you have access to those settings.

The animations are pretty rough in places even compared to other BioWare games, yet alone WoW.

The gameplay so far has been pretty dull even by MMO standards. I haven't found any of the classes particularly exciting so far. I've levelled Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular and Smuggler to around 8-9 before getting bored.

The unique aspect of the voice acting is actually annoying after a while. It was great on the first character, but when I came to level my second...and third, it became very annoying and I found myself skipping it half the time.

I was really hoping for more from such a big project, but so far Im not impressed with what I've seen. It's not a Beta thing as I played the WoW EU stress test beta back in the day and loved the game instantly.

I wasn't expecting BioWare to lean so heavily on WoW's influences. I expected a bit more originality from them.

Performance isn't that great for me on an i5 @ 4.5 and a HD6970.

Seems to stutter at times, this is at 1080P and everything max.

As for the game.... well, it's a tough one. Perhaps I was expecting too much but it hasn't drawn me in like i'd hoped. Currently got a Consular to level 10.

The Star Wars universe is a very large part of what it is though. This statement is quite obvious but what I'm trying to say is it's really great to be able to interact with the universe (characters, worlds etc). It's nice when you're really familiar with the setting to be able to adventure around it. So yeah if it wasn't Star Wars I'd be much less interested, but the fact it is Star Wars makes me interested.
