What film did you watch last night?

Faster 7/10

Who knew the Rock, Sorry I mean Dwayne Johnson could act outside a wrestling ring. Has Debra from Dexter (meh) and Billy Bob Thornton. Alright flick a lot of my mates said it was rubbish, wasn't perfect but the idea and premise was worth a watch. That and I thought I was renting Fast 5 half asleep lol.

Warrior 10/10

Watched it last night and just watched it again tonight. Probably my film of the year. Not everyone's cup of tea but I thought it was fantastic.

Oh and..

The Thing(2011) 6.5/10
Worth a watch but not a patch on the original.

50 50 8/10
Enjoyed, thought it would be funnier but I'm glad it wasn't.

Odd, watched all 3 of those in that order! Followed by Fright Night which I rate about a 7.5/10.

True Grit (2010) - 8/10.

A good film with some fantastic acting in it, but, not as good as I thought it would be. Just had something missing. I would urge anyone to watch it, but its unlikely I will watch it again.

The Fighter

7/10, not a fan of boxing, but a good film with stella performances from Wahlberg and Bale

Paul - 6/10. Based on 50% of the audience in my flat being ill, we went for an easy, lighthearted film to watch on a Sunday evening - tough chouce between this and A Fish Called Wanda!

Certainly not difficult to watch, you can see how the Pegg/Frost thing has been made more accessible to the wider US audience, with a number of their en voge (and better) comedy actors making appearances. Silly story but well executed, and a couple of genuie LOL moments.

Wasn't it though?!

That introductory bit took me completely by surprise! Did not expect to be encountered with such a profound view on life in an animated movie of all things!

+1 They've really set the bar so high for animated film's in recent years, fantastic balance of entertainment with serious tones.

Watched Crazy, Stupid, Love last night. 9/10

I thought it was a fantastic Rom/Com which didn't follow the regular cookie cutter routine. Without spoiling any of the plot details, it manages to be very clever and subtle. The Garden/Love Relationship theme is very nice as well.

Acting is great from pretty much everybody and the soundtrack is very nice for those who appreciate soundtrack compositions.

I watched most of Riding Giants on BBC4 last night. I've seen it a couple of times before and it's just absolutely superb. You get completely and utterly captivated by it and when it builds up to the wave that Laird Hamilton rides at the end you can't help but just sit there with your mouth open. Insane

Warrior: F'it I'm going to throw is out there... 10/10. I couldnt be more entertained even if I tried. Slight man-crush /nohomo on Tommy's neck/back muscles. I am in awe!

Fright night: 7/10. Fun to watch, no more no less.

Odd, watched all 3 of those in that order! Followed by Fright Night which I rate about a 7.5/10.

I have an idea why that might be, given that I did pretty much the same thing too.

The Thing (2011)

Wasn't expecting much from it, but was pleasantly surprised. It's a prequel to the 1982 version starring Kurt Russell, but is basically a remake. The lovely Mary Elizabeth Winstead is our main protagonist this time. Pretty well done on the whole and effects are, as you would expect more realistic than Carpenters version. Doesn't quite achieve the same levels of paranoia that the '82 version did. But then that isn't doing this version a disservice as the '82 film is probably the best sci-fi horror of all time alongside Alien.

I enjoyed how the movie ended and during the credits and how it was basically the exact shots that began the '82 film. Helicopter, sniper, dog.

It works as a stand alone movie and as a prequel. Think I will watch the '82 version at the weekend.

7/10

The Knowing - 7/10 because it delivers on what it promises. I find that to be a rare quality in films of this genre. I won't go into any further detail, but I do think this film has its own merits. Slightly dodgy CGI in places though!
