Sometimes I'm ashamed to be British...

Whilst I am obviously not advocating for DD's argument, I think his point stands to the extent that England does have a relatively high population density.

I'm not really doubting that, I'm saying that a high population density does not equal overcrowding.

However, it is wrong to compare one independent nation state with what is effectively a territory within another.

Compared to what?
Other countries.
This is the hole in his argument with all the cherry picking. You also need to then decide whether this is actually a problem at all. These small atolls and islands have high population density, is that a problem?
I don't think it's a problem and thankfully it's not my argument so I need not bother answering :p

Are these people applying ridiculous semantics to a widely accepted statistic liberals or just faecitiously pedantic?

Genuinely hard to tell.

Citing Vatican City or Monaco as counterpoints to overcrowded countries is utterly banal and serves no purpose to this debate as they are both have utterly unique circumstances.

In Monaco's case it is crowded with millionaires, I'm pretty sure we'd welcome that kind of density if they were typical of your average immigrant. But they are usually the absolute opposite.

.

What does population density have to do with it anyway?

Are we going to stop the country re-producing now? Is this as far as we grow and no further?

Exactly. Common sense seems to be a bit lacking from some people here, perhaps wilfully so ;)

Well this is interesting, what would you say the 'average' immigrant is?

I find it rather irritating that when discussing immigration, it seems often that a group that is targeted is Muslim people. I find this irritating because the majority of immigrants are not Muslim, and so the bigger picture is in fact ignored.

Perhaps I've got this muddled, but I was under the impression that DD was saying England was relatively overpopulated and everyone else was saying "aha but you must include the whole land mass of the UK!" which I thought was a bit silly since DD was not intending that Wales or Scotland necessarily suffered from the alleged problems (for good reason too, especially with Scotland).

Why do you want to grow our population ad infinitum?

I never said I did, but population growth is a natural effect of human interaction and life.

Neither are we at our limit, if we do limit ourself in such narrow terms we could be set to become increasingly irrelevent in the next 100 years.

I've only really been following the last couple of pages, but I haven't seen much mention of Muslim immigrants. It seems to be Eastern Europeans that are taking the flak at the minute.

Perhaps because they typically integrate the least well out of all immigrants? Plus IIRC they are the fastest growing group in the UK.

If somebody is indoctrinated into believing something is acceptable (being personally oppressed) then it's often recognised they have a diminished capacity for informed consent.

The same applies to adults who gain consent from children for sexual advanced, the fact consent was given is irrelevant - specifically if they suffer a penalty/punishment if they say no.

The concept is oppressive in it's construction.

I find it odd how you say,

""no skin off my nose and doesnt affect my daily life" - perhaps you should apply this attitude to a few other things.

So what about the millions of people converting to islam? These are people who fully understand (informed) what they are getting themselves into and convert from one religion to another. Islam is the fastest growing religion.

Also next time your giving your OPINION on how wearing a scarf is oppressing for a woman, how about you go and ask someone who wears one. My mother, sister and aunt all wear the burkha (out of their own choice) and my wife doesnt (again out of her own choice).

Would we agree that London has the highest population density out of any UK city?

Morphologically, that puts it at 29th in the world, behind obvious cities such as Tokyo, New York and Mumbai, but interestingly also behind Moscow, Istanbul and Paris.
