Sometimes I'm ashamed to be British...

So what about the millions of people converting to islam? These are people who fully understand (informed) what they are getting themselves into and convert from one religion to another. Islam is the fastest growing religion.

Also next time your giving your OPINION on how wearing a scarf is oppressing for a woman, how about you go and ask someone who wears one. My mother, sister and aunt all wear the burkha (out of their own choice) and my wife doesnt (again out of her own choice).

I would imagine that the fastest growing belief would be atheism. I'm sure that the world is becoming more secular, but I may be wrong?

Perhaps I've got this muddled, but I was under the impression that DD was saying England was relatively overpopulated and everyone else was saying "aha but you must include the whole land mass of the UK!" which I thought was a bit silly since DD was not intending that Wales or Scotland necessarily suffered from the alleged problems (for good reason too, especially with Scotland).

But you can't compare a territory within a nation with a nation. It's not a fair comparison, and it just stinks of daily mail grabbing headlines.

He also hasn't explained why high density population (which can be a good, bad, or neutral thing) is the same as overcrowding (which is a bad thing).

I've only really been following the last couple of pages, but I haven't seen much mention of Muslim immigrants. It seems to be Eastern Europeans that are taking the flak at the minute.

Sorry - that'll be me, but I did say, "some" - the ones I was asking about seem to be the exception as most that I know work their nuts off... ;)

I find it rather irritating that when discussing immigration, it seems often that a group that is targeted is Muslim people. I find this irritating because the majority of immigrants are not Muslim, and so the bigger picture is in fact ignored.

Perhaps earlier in thread, but there hasn't been much discussion of that group since I've been following this thread until you brought it up.

Western countries such as US, Canada, France, Spain, Italy etc.

US and Canada aren't really comparable, given both have vast areas of uninhabitable land. England is pretty much 100% inhabitable in terms of environment and area.

Nothing irrational about being opposed to an alien group who don't fit in, don't WANT to fit in, and do want to impose their own culture onto our country.

I know many many muslims, and none of them want to do this.

Of course, there's every chance that I am being exposed to an unrepresentative sample, but if your sweeping generalisations were true, then I'd at least know one or two muslims who fit your description?

I really don't think it's that unreasonable to be comparing the population of England to France or Spain, is it? I would say it's more unreasonable to deny the comparison completely :p

That's for him to answer, it's not something I agree with.

Not that you'd want to make use of 100% of the land for residential areas, otherwise you'd have nowhere to grow food and also no countryside to enjoy. :(

Pick other countries in Europe then that suit you. It is still has a pretty high population density.

I don't know why people are trying to suggest against this, by itself it doesn't mean anything :p

So we should arrest people for being obnoxious and holding views we disagree with?

I phrased that badly :(
She should be arrested for what I say below

What did she say that was racist? She used no racial epithets for example. Calling someone black or Polish isn't racist. In fact saying they aren't British or English isn't racist either, it's an opinion which may or may not be correct or to your liking, but it isn't racist.

She said people couldn't be British simply because they were black. Calling someone Polish isn't racist... if they are Polish. You can't say any Eastern European is Polish.

Never said that it should, but it does impact population density if people can settle pretty much anywhere in the country. There will be areas of Greece, Spain and Turkey akin to deserts that aren't inhabitable, but lower the population density of the countries.

If there were a way to calculate population by area of inhabitable land (including land required for farms and such), I think some other countries would climb quite a bit.

Apart from Hull.

A fair few would add Glasgow to that list.

Just sayin':p (and kidding of course).

Edit: GAH, alright you refered to England alone. Glasgow is Scotland and not part of England.....yet.

In the year 2050 liberals will declare the concept of nation to be racist and Scotland will be absorbed in the mass of teeming nationalities that make up the southern land mass once known as England. It will be called Happyland and everyone will be skipping hand in hand in prosperity and it will rain doughnuts.

We won't need traditional power anymore as vehicles will be powered by your average liberals sense of self congratulation and smugness meaning land speed records will be broken on a daily basis and a plug up one of their backsides will power the entire country for a week.

Never mind 2000 years of history, that would be racist.
