***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

I put a fair bit of time back into it over this last month. The double xp login reward and ability to save during endurance finaly gave me the motivation to play them, although I still dont like the look of the 24h A-spec races ;).

I do wonder if Its much faster to level up now when playing from scratch as it has double xp almost fromthe start (if you just log in/log out a few days before playing). I played game from launch and had to play a few events two or three times to get needed xp to progress.

You were getting triple xp over the summer when doing the seasonals. I managed to hit level 40 and acquire every car in the game over a very short space of time.

I see you on MW3 much more lately.

I only log into GT5 to make daily trades with people over at GTPlanet. Mostly because of Uni that I'm not playing much.

I have to say that for the current period of time I only go on GT5 about 3 times a week and i only ever go online and with FPS's I usually spend at least 2 hours a day on them :p. Mainly play them because my mates do and also because MW3 and BF3 are fairly new. I don't think that I'll be picking up GT5 again seriously until more DLC comes out.

Understandable, GT5 is a year old so it's somewhat normal not to play it so often - when you've played it to death.

Agreed with the DL content though, the last one wasn't enough for me.. it needs MORE!! more A and B Spec events, more cars, more tracks..

Granted the last one added a new track and a few cars but it wasn't significant enough, otherwise loads would be playing it again. Saying that though if they add a similar amount of new content like in the last DLC every 2 months, after a while it should develop into quite a handful of new things to do.

indeed, haven't played this in a good 2 months if memory serves, think my main driver is in the main draggy bit leveling between 30-35?, think i've got two races left to do in Extreme, and 99% of the endurances, game badly needs more regular races, and how often does the online collectors car base get updated?

Don't remember when I last played. Month ago maybe? Something like that anyway, currently 12 or 13 hours into the Nurburg 24 hour endurance so I can't do anything else until that's done and I just haven't felt like carrying on with it, too many other games to get on with :)

New update coming next week. Not a great update if you ask me, but it's better than nothing.

Kazunori Yamauchi has announced Gran Turismo 5‘s next software update and new downloadable content will be coming on December 20, 2011. Via Twitter:
[Japanese tweet, translated:] GT5 next update, DLC, Christmas is one week later. On December 20. Tomorrow is going to be a press release.
[English tweet:] The release of the next GT5 update, DLC, and Christmas present is coming next week.
Polyphony Digital has already posted an online service maintenance notice for the date, between the hours of 03:00-04:00 GMT, so the new material should become available at that specific time.

UPDATE: Sony has jumped the gun a bit, posting all the information about the new content on their blog. Here’s a complete listing of all the new changes coming in GT5 2.02:
  • Users can now change wheels on Standard cars
  • The settings sheets will include a new ‘copy’ feature
  • In GT Auto, players will be able to see how the oil changes, aerodynamic parts, engine overhauls, and racing modifications will affect performance points and engine power, before and after their application
  • Free coupons have been added that allow you to wash cars, change oil, overhaul your engine, or refresh the car body in GT Auto (10 coupons will be distributed for free to each of those who have downloaded the 2.02 update)
  • Pressing the Square button in the car coupon selection screen of the Car Delivery will now allow you to exchange all car coupons at once, rather than doing one at a time
  • In screens where the [Garage] and [Driver List] buttons are displayed in the A/B Spec events, Special Events, and Seasonal Events, pressing the Square button will now show the [Garage], and pressing the Triangle button will bring up the drivers list
  • In My Lounge, the room settings will feature a new ‘Max. number of participants’ setting
  • In the event selection screen of seasonal events, there are now ☆(star) marks that show the number of Gold Trophies attained in each event
  • Improved racing sound effects
  • Elements of the steering assist controls (used when using certain controllers on Racing Karts) have been tweaked.
These new cars will also be available as DLC for $3.99:
  • 2011 Mini Cooper S
  • 2010 Volkswagen Golf VI R
  • 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco R
  • 2012 Nissan GT-R Black edition R35.
The blog post also confirms the Toyota 86 will be available for free in the 2.02 update, and the previous batch of DLC will now be available on all the user accounts of a PlayStation 3 console (they can be purchased from their respective dealers within the game).
Finally, anyone who purchased the first batch of DLC will receive a free “Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 SP” along with five free “New Car Refresh” cards that reset any car in the game back to as-new condition, without losing any modifications that have been performed to it.

Really hoping that the wheels for standards are now the hi-poly 3d units found on premium cars but in reality all we will get to choose from is equally blocky PS2 carry overs.

They just need to turn all those cars into premium cars.

Loving the DLC. Cant wait!

Started a 24hr A spec race, quit after 80mins.

Man, I need to prepare for this.

I'm starting to think that Gold trophy isn't worth the time.

They're not that bad, depends if you want to do other races though. I'm now at 21 hours of Nurburg, finishing the rest later today. Mostly want to get it done so I can transfer all my content to my newly bought system, I don't really want to risk anything happening to my in-game save after 21 hours of racing heh.

Also, what gold trophy? It's a bronze for completing the endurance series isn't it?

I definitely will be! What with the new DLC coming out on my birthday :D I believe there is a MP thread so I'll make a thread revival but if not I'll just create one.
EDIT-New MP thread is up, please post your PSN Ids in there so I can make a roster of regular players :)

I'm talking about the Gold trophy for Gold in every single license, A/B spec and special events.

I'm not far off it, but just can't get the motivation these days.

How do you save a 24hr race mid through???
