That sucks.
This weekend could be one of the last relatively mild ones in my neck of the woods as everyone just north of me seems to have snow. Best make the effort really, even if I perform woefully!

The guy thought it was completely acceptable to threaten a cyclist and kick his bike, in front of his kids, because the guy had told him off for stopping to close to the kerb.

I'm not defending the man or the poster, and agree the thread is pretty hostile, but according to the poster the cyclist had kicked the man's car despite the car being stationary and no active threat to the cyclist. Violence begets violence, and it's little surprise the driver retaliated in a very similar manner. I agree it would have been nice if the car wasn't stopped in the cycle lane, but that's no excuse to kick a car.

The post you're arguing with said "I was not happy as my kids could hear his foul language when he kicked my car. I got out and kicked his bike."

Edit: too slow - lots more posts above since I first wrote this - forgot to refresh the page before I posted - sorry.

Bizarre night last night. I took a bike into London with me because we were out at Tower Bridge and I've ended up stranded that side of London before. Just as well, because I missed my train and had to ride back. I know the route, but it's been a long time since I last drove over that way. I missed a turn because the buildings have all changed and I didn't recognise the road. Bermondsey and Deptford have changed to the point that I don't recognise the place any more. All the wharfs are gone and are now flats, except one building still standing on the corner which used to sell PA systems and concert equipment. So strange to see it all by itself and the rest of the building gone. I then ended up in a park I used to play in as a lad and retraced some steps. The park itself has barely changed and it looks like the paths haven't even been resurfaced since I moved away 10 years ago. The paddling pool still stands empty. Looks like all the metal has been stolen off the historic drinking fountain, which made me quite angry. The playground has also been re-arranged and all the old swings, roundabout, slide and see-saw are gone; replaced by rubbish-looking new stuff. Then I slipped and fell off on the wet grass which loosened the stem, so the last mile home was a bit dodgy.

It's quite nice riding at 2am when there's nobody about.

What are people using to track rides?
I'm assuming that most of you are using some kind of Garmin?

Garmin Edge 500

Is that data from a phone app or a bike computer?

That will be from some kind of Garmin computer, just like my screenshot at the top of the page.

I did use my iPhone. But it was a bit of a pain in the ass, as I'd have to start tracking, put the phone in my backpack, get a few other things ready....then set off. Same procedure in reverse when I finished.

Love being able to get the Edge out, click start, and off I go.

Great bit of kit :)

I think its a Garmin edge 500. Its the same data page as I posted earlier and is what I'm using.

I found that exactly too. Used strava, and map my ride quite a bit, but faffing around before and after was quite frustrating.

haha!

I was going to get the Edge 800, but I really don't think I would use the mapping feature that much. It would be great the first few rides, then I would realise I don't need it at all.

The 500 was the best compromise for me, does pretty much the same thing with no mapping.

If I get lost, I have my phone. Simples.

Temperature about -4C this morning, lots of sheet ice patches meant I was getting off and wobbling my way around them. Glad I wasn't further North, -20C not far up from me

Opinions please:

Went out on my Ribble Winter Trainer for the first time in quite a while yesterday. It's significantly more heavy than my Cervelo. Should I:

a. Man up and stop being a fanny,

or

b. Swap the Mavics off my Cervelo to replace the stupidly heavy Pro Lite Comos, and swap the cassette from 11-25 to 11-28?

Part of me thinks that making my Ribble lighter is a good idea, but how far do you go with what is essentially a <£200 frame? The other part of me thinks I should just swap the cassette and crack on, on the basis that when I swap back to the Cervelo I should have developed more strength which may be beneficial.

I'd go with option A on account of the extra leg strength come spring.

I might well do the great north bike ride too. As you say it's not particularly challenging but should be a laugh.
