i was wondering how and when the totalitarian airport system would spill onto the streets, but this is bigtime crazy.

all this because of bearded guys in caves. somehow i dont think so. this is a show of strength by the bankers who run governments. if you dont pay more money into the pension scam and work for longer while we steal it, this is what your gonna get. if you dont hand over power to brussels and be ruled by unelected persons nobody has ever heard of, this is what your going to get. i believe the olympics is being used to build more police state infrastructure in london for when the economy falls. if you think all this is just going to disappear when that final race is won, then i think your a really nice guy and good for you.

i just dont understand how people can buy into this "its to keep you safe and not make you worried about bearded men" YEAH! i wont be paranoid when i see jetfighters patroling the airspace while Special Forces man surface to air missile systems like its the middle east.

They say it's normal. I haven't checked but I'll take their word on it.

The police costs aren't exactly in control are they?

Have you seen the local bill for the torch procession alone? That isn't covered by central olympics funding either..

believe it or not the country will be saving money by using the armed forces for this, we get payed wether we do it or not why go and hire private security firms to do it when you already have a massive force at hand? baring in mind the police force is already stretched to breaking point as it is. lets face it unless you are getting ready to deploy or are deployed we arnt doing much else why not keep us busy

The securitisation of public spaces and events will probably only increase as advances in technology allow small groups to do more damage and we all cry out to be kept safe from the meanies.

School runs in 2050 will be similar to Mad Max.

the british couldnt stop the ira bombing mainland britian. you cant defend against a sucide bomber walking into a crowd. all this hardware getting deployed is painting a target on london.

it was meant as a bit of humour. to picture special forces manning them is extreme. thats what this is.

It's not like the troops are going to be walking around with weapons is it? They'll probably mainly be up to mundane, administration sort of things.

The worry is however that whilst such a large security presence is in London any attackers will go for less protected targets. Just look at Gleneagles and the London bombings.

I think it's a bit extreme all in, but then given the state of border control no wonder we're overreacting.

OP are you old enough to remember the 1996 Atlanta Olympics? Where an AMERICAN man planted 4 bombs and injured over 100 people, killing 2.

The Olympics is a popular high profile event. Security is essential regardless of "men with beards" there's enough nutters in the world to worry about. 13500 military presence is normal. And at least by utilizing (using) the armed forces which are already on the payroll, it saved hiring expensive private security firms.

I would have thought there was a larger security presence at Beijing. (where the last Olympic games was held, its in China just so you know, I'm not sure infowars teaches geography)

In seriousness, I do agree with you there really. A large part of the armed forces really does have no real "job" when they're in this country. As you say when not on deployment or preparing for it a lot of the services just literally have nothing to do.
