Been researching on internet for last hour or so about rooting, seems to be so many different ways to do it though. If someone could post a tutorial that they personally used I would be very greatful!

Hmm, maybe tomorrow I'll write a guide on what rooting/firmwares etc are and how to do it.

I was going to do it a while ago, but could never be bothered, let's see if I feel like typing a load tomorrow

I use iSyncR from android market to sync my galaxy s2 with iTunes.

You can always try this way. (if you are currrently using iTunes)

1. First install either ipod Agent on PC, this will run a small server program to listen for the Android device.
2. Connect mobile to pc via usb and create a folder called Music on sd card or phone storage, using usb storage method in wireless connections, not using Kies default.
3. Right-click on iTunes Agent icon in system tray and choose preferemces.
4. Leave the settings at defaults and click new.
5. Enter the device name, Galaxy S2
6. Leave Synchronize pattern: set to iTunes
7. Click the Choose button and select the Music folder you created on the Galaxy S
8. Click the Create button and select the Music folder you created on the Galaxy S
9. Click Save and then Close
10. Launch iTunes and you will see a playlist folder called My Devices, under which you will see the Galaxy S
11. Simply drag the music you wish to synchronize from your iTunes library to your Galaxy S into this playlist
12. Finally, right-click on the iTunes Agent icon in the system tray and select Synchronize devices to sync Music to your phone.

Just about to pull the trigger on this phone.

Found a deal with 3 for £17pm (24 month contract) + £145 one of payment = £553

500 minutes, 5000 texts and 1Gb data.

For £3 extra a month you can go unlimited data....., but as long as I have a wifi connection I wont need this.

Just to be sure tho, the background apps running, dont chew through 1Gb of data a month do they?

Dont know what to do know. Wait or buy the S2. I think the point is that the S3 will be stinkingly expensive, so will be out of my price range....

I cannot get the main OCUK search box for all forums, nor the forum specific 'search this forum' box, to stay open when I click inside it from this phone. Keyboard appears and the search box then closes. It only seems to happen for these forums.

I installed Dolphin Mini browser and it's the same problem with that. I presume others here have tried to use the search boxes from time to time? I wonder if it's a forum issue or an SGS2 issue?

Anyone fancy helping out a total noob? I just received this phone about 3 hours ago and its my first smartphone ever so i'm a complete Android noob. I'm struggling to figure the difference between widgets and apps and Touchwiz gubbins and so on.

I got the phone directly from Vodafone and it came with a bunch of apps pre-installed, 90% of which i cant work out what they do just from there name alone. I dont know the difference between Touchwiz stuff and generic android stuff so i'm quite tempted to wipe the thing clean (once i learn how) so i can know exactly what gets installed and what doesn't.

That leads me on to rooting and ROMs although i imagine that can wait. They main thing i want to know is what exactly is a ROM and what's a Kernal? If i install Checkrom or whatever how difference will the UI be from the stock Touchwiz?

I know i must sound like a proper tard but im pretty good with computers and technology generally so i'm keen to learn. Smartphones and Android are a whole new thing to me though.

just tried on mine and it did the same, can't say i use the search bar that often though so not a massive issue for me. At least you know it's not just yours I guess

I wonder if there's a way to sort it, and if this happens on other Android and non Androids handsets.

Bit of a problem here...my SGS2 can't/won't read my SD card with the .zip file on it, even after reformatting it - I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.0.2.

Any ideas?

Internal (built in) SD or seperate SD card? CWM 4 doesn't read external SDs, you have to put it on the phones storage.

Perfect, just the answer I was looking for. Does anyone have a link to an earlier version of CWM please?
