****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Quick bit of advice please:

I flashed Siyal Kernel v2.6 via CWM using "Flash Update" and NOT "Flash Kernel" does it matter?

Was going to try this Kernel cleaning script: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363738

So I downloaded it, put it on internal SD, ran CWM, "Flash Update" and selected the script. It flashed it, rebooted, then I went to "Flash Kernel" and selected Siyah Kernel v2.6 and it said this: "Kernel flash failed ! No zlmage was found."

However in the about phone the kernal is still showing up as Siyah v2.6

Help? :P

No it worked fine, the option "Flash Kernal" is for flashing a kernal (zimage) that is not contained within a zip file.

Anyone fancy helping out a total noob?

Snip

Just to add to my original questions - if I were to root with the intention of running Cyanogenmod mod what Kernal would i use? The guide i saw on youtube said you need to download the correct kernal that matches your phone version from here. My phone version is 2.6.35.7-I9100BUKJ3 which i dont see listed there.

So which Kernal would i opt for and why?

Thanks

You using the CWM app? To flash kernels on that you have to extract the zImage from the .zip and then select that.

Ah ok thank you. Yes I was using the CWM app, I've now extracted the zImage from the zip and flashed that.

just grained sugar.. wet you finger tip get some sugar to stick on it and start rubbing the logo you will see it slowly coming off :) - won't scratch the surface at all just take the logo off

Thanks for this by the way, it worked. Although there is still a very faint imprint of the logo only visible from some angles, did your old phone have this?

My phone had tiny scratches on the back and when i got rid of the logo you could see an outline of it as if something was stuck on that part and after removal the part was not scratched other than that no

wasn't 2.6 pulled? where did you get it from?

No version read the external sd card as far as i'm aware.

I can flash stuff from my external sd card using 5.0.2.7 just fine.

Just about to pull the trigger on this phone.

Found a deal with 3 for £17pm (24 month contract) + £145 one of payment = £553

500 minutes, 5000 texts and 1Gb data.

For £3 extra a month you can go unlimited data....., but as long as I have a wifi connection I wont need this.

Just to be sure tho, the background apps running, dont chew through 1Gb of data a month do they?

*Edit

Samsung Galxy S3 spec rumors.

Dont know what to do know. Wait or buy the S2. I think the point is that the S3 will be stinkingly expensive, so will be out of my price range....

topcashback also give you £60 back on this deal, i did it. Email me if you want any info (use trust address)

ah found it, he usually updates the first post with the latest kernel...

it definitely WAS pulled last night btw:p

Hah, I believe you, he can be confusing at times. Saying to find the latest kernel on his site, then on the site it says to download it from the thread :D.

He does like to pull kernels occasionally too, like 2.5.2b which worked fine for me.

Got a second hand SGS2 last night, so I'm trying to rapidly understand the firmware, framework, kernels and rooting etc...

The firmware on the phone appears to be KJ2. It's an o2 phone and therefore afaik o2 firmware.
How do I go about completely wiping the phone and then putting on either the latest o2 firmware or unbranded firmware? (the version numbers seem difficult to keep track of as some aren't released in the uk and other's are hacked versions)

I was thinking I might want to root the phone aswell to use chainfire and completely disable any unwanted features.

I have also been reading on xda as well, but it's even harder to keep up with/follow than this thread. lol

Might be wrong but you'll need to flash a pre-rooted Kernel using Odin to get CWM recovery, then you can flash away to your hearts content using CWM zips, personally I'd go for a rom with KK5 firmware then flash the KP1 modem and Siyah Kernel.

Alternatively you could just flash the default KK5 firmware (unrooted), then use Superoneclick to root it.

Have a look at the stickies on XDA developers.

Thanks, should help me get started and help figure out what parts are relevant.
I haven't really had a chance to play with it, but I actually prefer the screen to my iphone 4S. The iphone's is crisper (better image), but I find the sgs2's is somehow just easier to read/use.

If anyone could help me out rooting my Vodafone branded BUKJ3 i'd appreciate it (my previous 2 posts provide more detail). I only got the phone yesterday and reading the millions of xda threads on the various ways to root, flash etc is doing my head in.

Thanks

1. Download the KJ3 kernal and extract the .tar file from the .zip
2. Select the .tar file in the PDA section of odin and flash with phone in download mode.

TA DA you have root.

If you want to get rid of the warning triangle on boot read the thread i posted.
