Oh mr purple, is that why my laptop is broke?

I bet they are looking at the free ram after widows has cached everything not how much ram is used by stuff

That's the sort of thing I'm thinking of, though I don't know all the terminology as I don't use a modern version of windows. Prefetch or something like that? Turn that off, kill all processes you don't think are necessary, etc. then marvel at everything taking twice as long to start. Top tip for free RAM - run MS DOS 7! The RAM footprint is tiny!

It makes me ashamed to work for dsg. The purple place is certainly worse than our store, but when it comes to selling high margin attachments, well something has to pay for the party. On boxing day I shifted 4k worth of sale laptops and took a total of 380 quid margin because I failed to sell the stuff I normally do. If they didn't make money from high margin peripherals the only option would be higher priced big ticket items. For those in the know, its better to buy a zero margin laptop and then everything else off the web. For those who aren't? They're the ones subsidising your cheap laptop by buying Norton and cover.

I agree though, the technical knowledge of most of our staff is just shocking. I had to make up a usb stick of diagnostic utilities because we don't have anything of the sort given to us. Some people have their laptops sent off for weeks when they could've just run mbam instore.

No need to turn anything off it makes windows faster, if apps need the cache the data is dumped and given to the app.

I know, that's my point ;)

Sure, it is a pain if malware or crapware is taking up your RAM, but if it's just cached then it's really not a problem.

We arnt supposed to use mbam in knowhow, we still do though as it works and its effective.

you managed to push the setup and support packs at all? the guys in my store are great at pushing them, althogh its bad news for me as im the one who gets to set everything up :D

U clearly know nothing too, I would open the memory hatch at the bottom and see what sticks are in there or just use cpuz. Sounds like to me the 2gb stick has been removed.

No you won't idiot. Unless there was a void if removed sticker over the hatch. You know less than the purple shirt and have nerv to rip it out of them looool

7,000 posts get a life son.
And no I won't go checking for missing ram as it should be working as it was when I left it.
I can guarantee I know more about computers than you.
Xmas eve on here winding people up sad little boy.

I know less than them yes. I should have just took the laptop back then and installed norton like thy said and I would get that 2.5gb of ram back.
Your obviously a purple shirt.

My parents went into a spicy high street electronics store to buy a tv, the bloke said thwy didn't want to buy a 1080p 40" toshiba LED cause it uses too much power and that a 51" 720p samsung plasma would be better because it was more efficient.

To be fair Samsung do claim power usage of about 50w for that telly and they do have a better picture for SD. Given that they (your parents) had nothing connected via HDMI they probably didn't need 1080p ;)

The rest of it was just trying to sell accessories like they're supposed to, I don't agree with it but they have to otherwise the TV would be £100 more.

I have checked the bios showed 3gb this I also showed mr purple. Like I said they said it was fine when clearly something was not

The built in GPU can probably use up to 70% of the RAM, which would give you roughly the amount you're seeing. You can probably reduce it in the BIOS.
