Scariest Game you have ever played?

phantasmagoria when i was about 13 probably, somne of the stuff that happened in the last chapter gave me nightmares, only media thing to ever really scare me.

having watched the video of FEAR that goes something like this:

*player exploring*
ghostly voice: "she's afraid of you"
*player snaps towards voice*
player: AAAAAH!!! **** ******* ****** holy ****** ******* *****
(30 seconds later)
jesus ******* christ, oh god, oh man. phew!

i can see why so many people are saying FEAR is up there

ive just finished watching the video in my older post. around the 1 hour mark you are more right than you think :p
somewhere in the video the guy cries out for his mummy as well :D

You know, this post has made me want to reinstall FEAR :D

Are the sequels as good? I think I played Project origin a little bit but I really can't remember. Is FEAR 3 better visually?

Imo the expansion packs to Fear 1 were rather good, so yes, I would recommend them. I am currently playing through number 3 and apart from some modern technology at work to give more advanced lighting etc, I actually preferred the feel, overall visual style and especially the atmosphere of the first. In fact, some of the graphics in Fear 3 come woefully short of my expectations, on the other hand, now and again some of the textures look good, but not that often. I think so far I would say I would rate Fear 3 above the Project Origin, but there is not that much in it. It's a mixture of 'oh, how predictable and contrived' with something subtle, enjoyable and at times which delivers a welcome break of variety in the game. The combat in the third shouldn't disappoint, I'd say I'm enjoying that aspect a bit more than I recall doing in the second, though maybe not quite as much as with the original game. I do quite like what they've done with the story in Fear 3, it's at least better than the way it was handled in the second title.

Visual quality. Though some of the odd textures are occasionally good, it's all to much a case of hit and miss, with more of the latter imo. When considering this, it did actually remind me of what people had said about RAGE, that being there are some great graphics alongside some appalling textures. Though, in this case I don't think the decent ones rank next RAGE's best. :D

While I wouldn't say it doesn't have its nervy moments, these (so far) are relatively few and far between. It also took a while before I even began to experience anything remotely like this.

Music.

Starting off each level with none of your weapons that you had accumulated during the previous level. There maybe the odd exception, but otherwise don't get your hopes up.

the only way i would play amnesia is if there was a shot gun mod, seen some you tube vids, that was enough for me, ghost hunter scared me a bit along with fear 1 but most other scary games i played i got used to

Silent Hill 1 back in the day
Condemned

I have just started playing Alan Wake on the 360, only about 2 hours in but that's been pretty scary so far.

Not played Amnesia but I have installed it & do plan to start it soon :)

I bought Amnesia for a horror fix at Halloween, but I didn't get around to playing it, going to load it up on my laptop for next week after reading this thread :)

Half life 2, ravenholm or what ever that maps called lol

I didn't find that map that scary at all?

Amnesia however...

10 mins on my own and I was cacking my self. With another friend I still couldn't last more than 10 mins.

With 2 friends we lasted for about 30 mins before we got totally freaked out. With 8 people we lasted an hour before we got stuck in the flooded basement part :D

It's the only game that has ever scared me properly.

From my younger days I remember, Quake, AvP, Alien Trilogy, Thief and Hexen 2 being scary. I remember playing Quake up until the parts where Shamblers started to appear and I didn't want to go any further.

Thief also gave me the biggest scare of any game ever, It made me jump out of my seat and pull the headphones out of the computer, causing the sound to play full volume through the speakers, making me cack myself even more. I had to stop playing and go lie down for half an hour before my heart stopped racing :D

I think mine was the first Alien game on the PC, even though I only played the demo.. Damn was it scary as a marine; Looking at the radar and the beeps was the most scariest part!

Bioshock 1 is the recent one that stands out for me. The part where you get your shotgun with the lights suddenly going off and sparks flying everywhere as the splicers drag their weapons across the floor is crap-inducing scary. The rest of the game isn't scary as much as it's eerie. Very well made game.

Space hulk on the amiga got me years ago.

I managed to win a copy of Amnesia in the Steam xmas sales but i still have it as a gift as i dont think im man enough to play it! lol

Doom 3, never got past the bit where the first monster appears, or the thing I was about 7 when I played that tho on ps2 which terrified me :P
