No lol, for example if his insurance was £600 a 90% increase would be a extra £540. Roughly the figure he quoted, therefore his original quote would have been around £600.

Been 3 weeks since I last washed my car so the black tar spots that lather the bumper edges and skirts/door sides were crazy to get off, much elbow grease was released!

Still looking good mate. Should get you to do some of mine :)

Fail!
I just realised the boot was open in that pic :/

But ta, also if you're near by, why not eh :p

I also cleaned in the interior, I thought it was clean until I got down low and moved the seats back, amazing how much grub can build up if left untouched for a month!

Glad to see i wasn't the only one to clean my car for hours and hours today!

Gave it it's first proper clean:

- Full wash (Collinite'd it last week and my God, why have i not used this wax before?!)
- Hoover inside
- Clean everything inside (removing dirty marks etc)
- AutoGlym Leather Cleaner the seats (couldn't believe how dirty my driver's seat was in just 2 months of ownership!)
- AutoGlym Leather Balm (this stuff is witchcraft, the leather looks and smells new again now - this is an absolutely fantastic product)
- Blackend all exterior trim
- Chrome polished exhaust

It looks fantastic now! M3 spoiler coming on Monday and trying to source some M-Sport skirts for it so hopefully i'll have some interesting photos soon!

It saddens me when I see an E46 Sport coupe on the road neglected! I saw a 330Ci at The Range today as I parked up and looked back at my car as I was walking into the store (anyone else do this? :p) and turned around to see another silver E46. Thought to myself "wicked!" then noticed the greying faded black trim panels :/

It's a real shame when they fall into the hands of those who do not treat them properly but sadly as our cars get older its inevitable this will happen. It saddens me when I see a trashed E39, or a badly modified example.

I suppose it does mean that a nice example of cars of this age stand out from the crowd of tattered ones though :)

Decided to treat my alloys to some Wolfs Rim Shield, it's a product that's been getting some good reviews over on detailing world.

They're in good condition having been refurbished in August just prior to me getting the car.

I removed the wheel then washed it with Autoglym Shampoo, then washed again with Autobrite Citrus Wash and finally spray with APC and rinse off, sounds a lot but each stage only took a couple of minutes.

I then brought them in the house and sprayed and wiped down with Isopropyl Alcohol to ensure they were absolutely spotless. Apparently it's really important before applying Nano products like Rim Shield that the surface is as clean as possible.

I then cut a piece of Microfibre 2" x 2" to apply the product. It was weird to apply as it was completely clear and you hardly need any at all.
I left it for 10 minutes, buffed off and applied a second coat.

Should make them easier to clean and slow down the brake dust attacking the alloys, just need new centre caps now to finish off.

Can ayone give me some advice regarding polishing?

I was in the local Halfords the other week and picked up two products a guy at work had suggested I try using to recude swirling on my car - Meguiars Scratch X 2.0 and Meguiars Ultimate Compound. I picked them up on a bit of a whim, I do intend to use them in the near future, so grabbed them whilst I was passing. However, Im not really sure what might be the best to use.

After doing a bit of reading Im thinking of returning the Ultimate Compound and sticking to Scratch X. Reasons being, UC seems to be a more abrasive compound designed for use with a polishing machine and I am intend to do it by hand. I read a few horror stories about completely ruined paintwork so I'm being a bit cautious.

Would Scratch X be suitable to give the whole car a going over? I was advised it would be good for sorting out swirls, but it seems like it might be designed more for spot scratches and marks, much like T-Cut. Or can anyone who has successfully uses Megs UC by hand give any tips/advice?

The swirling on my car isn't particularly heavy, but I notice it a fair amount in the car park under our flats where it sits under the lights, so I'm looking for a way to give the paint a tidy up with a hand applied product rather than having to learn how to machine polish the whole thing. Im aware this would give the best results but it's something I would leave to someone else if I did want it done.

UC is still a diminishing abrasive, I can't really see how you can go wrong with it.

Autoglym SRP will hide swirls for a while, especially if you put a coat of wax over the top.
