Seems to have let me log back in again. It appears that if you were already playing when it crashed you could continue to do so. I however decided to change servers at that exact point...

Logged back in - no games showing so had to restart Origin - back in and games showing but taking an age to connect to servers ........................

Got a copy of BF3 for my birthday today from the missus.
