****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Does anyone else think the updates to Siyah Kernal and the changelogs are a bit of a joke? He just tends to update it to fix problems introduced in the previous version, and the only real significant changes are the default governor :p

Maybe, I am installing the latest now.

Also ICS Domination theme updated to 1.8, go install you turds! :p

You aren't the first person I've saw say that most of his updates just fix bugs he introduced in the previous version :p.

How much will I get flamed for saying ICS is a bit well, meh....? Gone back to CheckROM (although only because it was an easy backup restore), need to find something else to play with, might try MIUI but I've always hated those...

Alright, my damnable phone has decided it no longer wants to talk to PC's, nor charge via USB when plugged into a PC.

Now its not the cables, I have about 10 of the bloody things now (where do they keep coming from?!) and they all work fine charging 2 other phones.

The PC recognises other phones when they're plugged in, and allows them to charge, I've also allowed KIES to re-install the driver, not that that should matter just for charging via USB, but just to rule it out. so I suspect its not the PC.

The Phone itself is quite happy to charge when plugged into a regular wall adaptor, again tested with the many kicking about the house, its happy with any of them, so I assume that means the USB plug isn't broken?

So, I guess its phone software, right? I've tried enabling and disabling USB debugging, also turning bluetooth on and off (some people said it worked for them) and neither produced any results.

Its rooted and it used to be fine charging from PC, but I cant remember when that was, so the issue could have cropped up any time in the last 2 months or so, I dont think I've had any reason to plug it in, have been using KIES air for file transfers.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do from here...

Anyone have any suggestions? Any help much appreciated! :)

Had exactly the same problem on my old galaxy S after using custom roms, have you been using custom roms?

Never did find the solution for it, although someone did say to use "mobile odin" from the market place and use that to flash back to a stock rom?

Maybe give that a go mate.

Just got my Galaxy S 2 and it makes me paranoid of putting any custom roms on it now lol.

I got my S2 a little while ago and I want to flash a pre-rooted kernal so i can use Titanium backup and whatnot.

My phone is unbranded (from Dialaphone.com) and the stock kernel is XWKI4 and the Android version is 2.3.4. If flashing CF-Root would the correct version to use be CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_KI4-42-v4.2-CWM4.zip from this post on XDA?

I dont really know what the 'NEE' and 'XEO' etc. parts stand for so i thought i best check which one i should flash.

Thanks

Ah right, for some reason i thought you had to flash a kernel specific to your stock phone before flashing other kernels and what not.

Is rooting necessary before you can perform a full backup of your stock phone? I want to be able to easily return it to its stock out-of-the-box should it need to go back to Dialaphone for whatever reason.

Thanks

Since you got it from a 3rd party seller i presume the firmware was unbranded?

The dev seems like an eternal fiddler, it annoying.

Dont think its a custom rom, just whatever was necessary to root it.

Ill give mobile odin a go, where can I get my hands on a stock rom?

If that brings back my charging, I assume I'll need to re-root? If so what roms do people reccommend? Do any of them have any real advantage ocer the others!

Also, just noticed, when posting a reply here using the phone it clips the edges of the edit box off, making it a bit of a pain if you need to go back and edit an earlier bit of your post.... Is there any way to fix that?

Am.i.the only one really disapointed with the audio.quality? What player/headphone combo do you lot use? :-*

It's now quite well documented that the S2 has pretty poor quality audio for a high end smartphone unfortunately. I think it's due to a low quality Yamaha chip that is used for audio processing.
