What gin for gin & tonic? (gift question)

Foxdenton 47% for the win. It comes from a small distillery and I've never seen it in the shops but, my God!, is it made of lovely.

Perfect for gifts because it's (a) excellent and (b) something they're unlikely to have tried.

As one that's a bit more unusual I quite liked Blackwood's gin when I've had it, produced in limited quantities from ingredients on Shetland it was rather good - however as it is made in fairly small batches that may vary somewhat.

Never tried that yet. Since I'm originally from Shetland, I really should give it a go.

Waitrose order delivered today so I got some Sipsmith to try. Will give it a bash tomorrow to see what it's like.

Had a few generous measures of the Sipsmith this afternoon (with Schweppes tonic) and it's pretty good. Not sure if I'd say it's better than Bombay Sapphire but it's different enough to warrant buying it.

Not had gin for years, but upon seeing this thread I thought I'd have some BS (yeah I know it's 7am, but who cares). Remember drinking far too much of that. Good stuff.

I'm feeling supersonic, give me gin and tonic.

Blackwoods is awesome, I came in here to post about as it hasn't been mentioned, but seems it has!

Whisky exchange is great for gin.

Jensens for £25 a bottle last I checked, beautiful gin.
Also Mare Mediterranean Gin for something a bit different, very masculine
Magellan french gin for something more delicate.

All of these are a big step up from supermarket brands I've found, and all pretty reasonably priced

Worth every penny. There's no point putting expensive gin in cheap tonic.

I went and bought a bottle of Fever Tree today (as well as a bottle of Tesco Tonic water). I'm still a bit too hungover, but after dinner I'm going to do a blind taste test and see what's what. I really hope it isn't that different as I can't afford £1.40 for a small bottle of tonic!

and the answer is ......

Haven't had dinner yet, haha. Probably won't be eating till half 9! Gotta wait for the girlfriend, sigh.

Also, I can't get into my freezer (drawers are frozen shut) so need to give the tonic some more time to chill in the fridge as I won't be having ice. :(

That seems a lot. Don't they do 4 packs of fever tree for around £3?

Either way from what the wife says she'll often opt out of a g&t these days if they don't have decent tonic!

Tesco's is okay, but that's about it - there's a sweetness to it that doesn't quite sit right. Fever Tree is far more neutral and subtle.

He'll probably have spent £1.60-ish on a 500ml bottle.

Meh, Fever Tree isn't that much better. It's not worth the price, that's for sure.

I disagree. I've just poured myself a Sipsmith with Fever Tree and I can happily say, it's 10 times better than the Schweppes stuff I usually have.

Loving it :)

New favourite gin - Boe. It's gorgeous. 47% as well. Was drinking it neat and with Femtimans. Not sold on Fentimans tonic, but straight it was lovely.

Been trying to get some comparison going between gins recently. I didn't want to buy a bottle and not like it so while out I have been trying different gins.

Not a fan of Gordons, it is sort of a 'generic gin' flavour. Not really feeling Sapphire either. I had Hendricks a little while ago (with cucumber instead of citrus) and really liked it. I've plowed through a bottle of Plymouth too which I really like. I tried Tanqueray the other day and it didn't taste anything special, which surprised me given the popularity of it on here.

Whats Tanqueray Ragpur like? Anything else I should try? I've got a birthday coming up and would like to drop some hints about getting some gin. So far top of the list is Hendricks, followed by Plymouth, but I'm open to suggestion :)
