Pakistan v England Test Series *** Spoilers ***

You know when Aussie won the ashes all those times, you never heard them gloat or boast about beating England did you!

lole36Adz

You mean when Aus were undisputedly the best team in the world? Like England are now? More lol to you if you believe they are even comparable.

Just like Englands football team before a major tournament, you build them up so much only for them to come crashing back down to Earth like today. England fans will never learn lol. It's embarrassing, you should let others say how good they are, you shouldn't need to constantly be trying to remind people.

To be fair to England cricket fans, they talk about their collapses as much as their no1 ranking.

You talk about it like England have achieved nothing recently. We haven't lost a test series in 3 years!

They have had a very good run but what they have achieved is nothing compared to what 'great' sides in the past have achieved. If you actually read what I have said, I believe they are a very decent side capable of beating anyone but I don't think there is all that much separating the top 4-5 sides in all honesty, any of them can beat any other and in some cases badly (as today shows) despite what the 'official rankings' might show, and this Pakistan side is not even that strong imo, they just have some discipline and consistency in their game which we have never had for as far back as I can remember.

Despite the result of the first test, I still think exactly the same as what I thought going into it. We have the better bowling with our spin options and England have the better batting and far better fielding side.

Do you want me to dig out the countless streams of posts from India & Australia fans that filled cricinfo pre Ashes and this summer of how and why England are going to be annihilated

India can't beat any of them

(unless you don't count India as a top side)

Pak, Aus, Eng and SA are the top teams at the moment, I agree with e36Adz in that any of them could beat any other. I guess each team would win at home and lose away.

India are not that bad, it's just for you as an Indian supporter, the weaknesses stand out more than their strengths but yeah they seem to be getting worse rather then better. I wish Tendulkar would hurry up with his 100th 100, I've been watching his last few innings even though I've had work the next morning. I bet I miss it when he actually gets round to it! Some of the Indian team could do with going on a diet... says a Pakistan supporter.:p

'not that bad'

WTFFFF

They've lost 7 away matches in a row. That's Bangladesh standard. Not only that, but 4 have been innings defeats, and then one by 100 runs, another by nearly 200 and another by over 300! That's worse than Bangladesh, that's Zimbabwe standard.

They've taken 81 out of a possible 140 wickets.

And you can tell me that this is 'not that bad'

The team needs a massive slap, unfortunately the BCCI has its hands tied.

Rohit sharma went on a diet, it worked for him. Maybe Sehwag, Sachin, Zaheer, VVS and Dhoni could try the same.

Sorry I had Sehwags 200+ in mind but that was in an ODI, plus they have Dravid who is one of my favourite batsmen. Like I said, they are sinking steadily rather then on the way up but even a bad India is a half decent team, that is the standard they have set for themselves in recent years.

Right, here's the thing. Let's put England in the following situations away to:
WI - I'd back them to roll them over, forget 2009, this team has moved on
Bangladesh - Been and done
Australia - Been and done
SA - Tough call, Draw
NZ - surely they would win
SL - They've been disappointing of late, we'll find out soon enough but i'd fancy England to win
India - This is tough again, I would say lose but if they were to play India right now?
UAE - I think they might be able to draw, but we shall see.
See, I think South Africa are the best test team in the world right now (not including England), but I get the feeling they'd be easier to beat because we wouldn't be playing on the mythical "subcontinent wicket."

So even though we'd most likely lose in India, but could draw with SA, the latter are the stronger team. If that makes sense.

Fact: England is the #1 Test team. Fact: they didn't get there by not being the best. Fact: one Test failure does not mean they are no longer the best. Which makes Pakistan's victory all the more impressive.

It'll be interesting to see how the rest of this series plays out.

You talk about it like England have achieved nothing recently. We haven't lost a test series in 3 years!

But some of those wins have been achieved by very fine margins. Your home series against Sri Lanka consisted of two draws and a win. This is not the stuff of legends.

Wasn't that the series that we dominated but was constantly rained off (hence the draws)?

* Sri Lanka 400 and 82; England 496/5d (England won by an innings and 14 runs)
* England 486 and 335/7d; Sri Lanka 479 and 127/3 (match drawn)
* Sri Lanka 184 and 334/5; England 377/8d (match drawn)

(Source).

It wasn't 'constantly rained off.' There was an hour lost to rain in the 2nd Test and a brief sprinkle on the 5th day of the 3rd Test. Can't blame that for the draws. Your 1st Test win was thoroughly convincing, but I wouldn't say you were dominating the series.

I think people are being over the top in all cases here, Pakistanis playes well, they know the condition and despite the controversies of match fixing and the terrorism at home, they still have some truly class match winners. I'd like to see Boom boom in the side, just for his bowling, him and Ajmal in tandem, would be lethal on those pitches.Pakistan are short of 2 btsment in that side, class bowling attack, damn good openers, finally a decent wicket keeper, just need classy players at 3 and 4, Misbah shouldnt really bat 4 unless the team is about to collapse!

England are class, and are no-1 in the world, they just came half cooked into this tour, I reckon Monty needs to play, but who to drop, the bowling attack didnt do too bad, but they need to be able to take 20 wickets and right now I dont think they have that ability, and some of the batsmen need to up their concentration level. Their is a level of media hype around them, which some of the player let get to them, but come one, one test loss doesnt mean thats it they are finished!

IMO we wont have 1 team that will dominate for years to come, theres a good bunch teams at the top that on their day can beat each other.

Now stop all the silly arguing :p

Agreed. IMHO there's not much between England, Pakistan and South Africa at the moment. Australia is on the next level down, but that's to be expected since we've spent the last couple of years rebuilding our team and we're unlikely to see consistently impressive results for at least another two years yet.
