Getting christened today

I have always wondered, in the full immersions, do they use tapwater or is it treated. Also why don't they require lifeguards?

It depends where and how they do it.

Most places wouldn't need to be treated, why would they.

As for life guard. A)you can stand up and B) there's the priest in with you doing the dunking.

Somewhat pointless dont you think? If he believes in God then all is well and he was getting it done for the right reasons. If he doesn't believe in God the above words are utterly meaningless.

First of all,
2Timothy 3:16-17 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17*That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."
so no, not meaningless I believe.
I was moved to post the quotes after what the OP said.

Surely their is a risk if the same water is constantly used?
I was thinking about immersions in rivers regarding lifeguards as there might be a risk of being swept off their feet.

iF, and if it was being constantly used it would be treated. It depends on the setup and that varies from pouring a bit of water over your head, to being dunked in a river in a third world country with no H&S

Rivers aren't always fast flowing or deep.

But again, if you do not believe in God the above post is also meaningless.

Scriptural warnings to a non believer are utterly pointless.

I specifically stated that it would be meaningless if he didn't believe.

Ah right, sorry. The quotes were in response to the glib remark from the OP, of "getting smashed in heaven with the G man". It was meant as warning first, also an encouragement and a blessing to him (Hence including the story of the wise and foolish builders.) for "building" the future with his soon to be wife.

Chill, at no point gave I stated the degree of my faith and nor will I. If you remember the whole point if this thread was to ask advice. I also wanted to keep my reasons light hearted as I certainly do not believe an Internet forum is a god place for discussing them.

So let's not make assumptions or judgements please. If you disagree just remember I'll burn my balls in hell as far as you're concerned which I'm sure will bring some comfort and relief to you.

Apologies, I may have come across a little strongly, I'm just used to all manner of people coming into the church's I attend, becoming "Catholic" merely to get into schools and what not, and being quite blasé about the whole matter.

But at no point would I ever want to wish someone to hell, so you can rest in the peace and comfort that I'll say a prayer for you and your families good health. :)

Thanks- I appreciate your kind words. Turns out I had a surprise party afterwards. Now full of red wine and in my way home on the train.

Good times.

I see the bullies are crawling again out at the mere mention of religion.....

Leave the guy alone, either answer his question or don't....he isn't forcing his views on you, why would you insist on forcing yours on him.

Good luck in your Wedding Fastwuntz, and I'm pleased you enjoyed your baptism.
Which bullies are you referring too? - the "lolgod" people or the "Praise the lord" ones?.

He's also being criticized by Christians for "making a mockery of god", "using the church" & all that jazz.

Basically, they are all judging him - exactly like they are told not too.

I'm pretty sure 90% of the population pretend to be religious to either get into schools, or get married in nice old buildings - it should be hardly surprising.

Well,

"The Tearfund Survey in 2007 found that only 7% of the population considered themselves as practising Christians"

Sorry, 93% - better now?.

Was that the same Survey that said 53% of adults identified themselves as Crhristians and 15% went to church at least once a month?

Statistics in isolation are meaningless you need a body of evidence to support your argument and in fact all you have just done is proved you made your initial statistic up.

You are entitled to your opinion but what ever someones reason for going to church they will be welcomed and embraced by the community. I wish all those in this thread who are judging one another for their belief, lack of belief or type of belief would stop. Religion and your observance of it are a personal decision that should not be ridiculed or used as a stick to beat you with.
