Smartphone addiction

I find many people in relationships get into the habit of texting each other every few minutes with an immediate reply required.

I'm currently trying to get a second date with a girl who is infuriatingly slow at replying at times, sometimes a couple of days later she'll reply to my texts. Or she just might not be that into me!

One sure way to find out.

Go look in a mirror, if it cracks/breaks or you feel strangely ill - she isn't into you.

Think about it. If you really liked someone you wouldn't be able to wait 2 days to talk to her. Move on.

I remember seeing something on the news recently, on Click, that BBC tech news program.

They gave a kid, maybe 2 years old an iPad, and she could navigate it easily, then they gave her a magazine and she got so annoyed that the pages werent turning when she moved her finger across it, it was so funny

I always make a concious effort not to use it if I am in a pub waiting for a mate or similar, and then don't feel the need as much when I am with mates.

Still get the occassional phantom vibrate etc though :D

Not just women. But they are especially bad with it.

Sometimes on the train on the way home, i can look up and see that every single person is on a smart phone, except me. With my nokia 6300. I still get strange looks from people when i take my phone out.

My phone rocks, it is small, battery lasts weeks and it has internet and computer chess and sudoko. :D

I wonder how many young people are involved in RTA's with smartphones as a contributing factor?
My route home goes past a sixth form college and if I finish work early it's like watching a zombie movie, not many look up before stepping out into roads.

I also drive people mad by not responding to texts until hours or even days later.

Sometimes if I'm going away for a weekend I'll leave the phone at home so that no one can disturb me.

I get this a lot, one "mate" in particular is really, really annoying with texts. He will text all the time, expect an answer within a 2 minute time period or he thinks I have a problem with him. If I do respond, a slew of follow up texts will ensure that goes on for ages.

I've been spoilt by a lifetime of fast desktop browsing, so 3G speeds are infuriatingly slow. Thats probably the only reason I'm able to restrict my smartphone useage around friends.

I've been trying to enforce a no-laptop, no-smartphone rule when we do massive gatherings, as it tends to decend into laughing at various internet things rather than actually catching up. It took some persuasion, but everyone seems to appreciate it now.

I remember years ago, people used to talk to one another on the train sometimes. Now almost everyone has iPods and smartphones, everyone is just sat in their own little bubble and the only noise is some bint talking to someone on her phone about the inane banalities of her life, or the leakage of crap music from someone's white apple earphones.

I'm addicted to mine, completely. I come off the PC on an evening after work, sit down with the missus to watch some tv and end up browsing the net all night. Terrible things they are tbh.

Smart phones suck, why would i need a computer in my pocket? i have computer at work and when i get home. Why would i need it while i am commuting.

Smartphones battery life sucks, cameras suck compared to real camera, the phone functions can sometimes suck so does the keyboards.

The only benefit from smartphones is the ability to get googlemaps on your phone which is great. Other than that, there is no benefit having a smartphone over a 6300.

I know what you mean, but even if you remove the phone from their hand, loads of people still cross roads without even looking either way.

Isn't there a Road Safety App?

There was an article I read recently that was talking about the number of pedestrians who have headphones on that get run over because they're not paying attention.

Ease of use, the ability to stream live TV to your phone, the amount of games available? should I go on?

Why would you want live tv on your phone? If you want to play games you should buy a portable game device rather than a phone. Plus these functions destroy battery life, so instead of charging it everyday, if you actually use the functions like games and watching movies, you have to charge it every 12 hours.

My sister really annoys me with this when I go home (which isn't that often). It seems like she can't go a couple of minutes without sending a text, checking facebook etc. Find it really rude when you're doing something as a family (i.e. meal) and all I can hear is her tapping away on her phone ignoring everyone.

I leave my phone on silent all the time if I am out on a date or with friends and will only check it on my way home or when I am left by myself i.e. friends/date has gone to the toilet unless its just going round a mates to play COD.

One girl I was seeing for a while was constantly texting, interrupting our conversations with "one minute, just send this" her message alert tone would interrupt us making out and she would literally say one second.. It did annoy me but I grinned and bared it as I liked her but looking back on it I am rage face.

The only time I don't check my phone for hours is when playing my Xbox, when sat in work/gym/with friends I'm a bloody nightmare.
