I love religeous threads! I want to know if...

But there is a reason to for a lot of people, just because you don't understand the reason doesn't make it irrational, they could claim your being irrational in your denial. Of course thats beyond your level of comprehension obviously.

What reason would that be then? Because the only things I can come up with are "it's written in a book" and "I grew up in a culture where everyone else believed it". Neither of those are good reasons.

What you call "denial", I call "critical thinking".

The concepts on how it can be tried to be proven are the same, there is no actual physical evidence to support it (unlike evolution, big bang, etc) and so to put your beliefs in it you need faith as there are no facts to go on.

But i'm not trying to prove it, and I don't adhere to any religion, therefore i'm a spiritualist, look it up, you may get a better explaination.

Playing word games doesn't let you off the hook. You still believe in things despite the lack of evidence.

Reasons to believe in a higher power can come from necessity. My belief has nothing to do with religion, I detest religion, as has been shown in previous posts in other threads (each to their own though). However it has become necessary for me to beleive, in a nutshell it keeps me sane.

However I'm still not religious, which you have tried to state goes hand in hand with the belief of a higher power, it doesn't.

People believe in a lot of things without evidence, it's classed as faith but it doesn't mean that it's religious.

That's nice, but it's still not a rational reason. In fact, since you recognise that you're believing in something for convenience or necessity rather than facts, that would seem to indicate that you don't truly believe it at all. You're just telling yourself that you do. Either that or you're very good at the whole cognitive dissonance thing, which would lead me to doubt the "sane" part. :p

If you look back over my posts, you'll see that I did not once use the word "religion" or any conjugation or variant thereof.

Or I found and started believing when it mattered most. Who knows.

The thread is titled religion and I mentioned that faith was an integral part of religion while fact for those who disagree with it. And you assumed I meant spiritualism=religion as spiritualism also relies on faith based values. I only have issue with people stating it as gospel and then basing an argument purely on faith while ignoring facts which don't suit them.

First off the Almighty tells me he does exist and that I should first ask him, then await an answer, before making glib remarks in threads; in His name.
Sorry Edgey.

RomanNose do you understand "Black swan theory"? I had never heard of it untill you mentioned it and from my quick research of it, it seems you don't, especially in the context you mention it. Infact your whole statement is false, there was never a man who tried to prove the non-existance of black swans by counting white ones, nor a tale of it.

You have an issue with people stating that the things they get from a gospel are gospel.

What?
