battlefield 3 monthly subscription?

I think it was always going to happen at some point. Xbox live and DLC was just the start. Not that I am saying it will happen now, but I do see us having to select which games we can afford to keep playing online from the selection of games available. What about xbox users? they pay for the game, then they pay for live then have to pay this?

:(

If that's the case then I don't think I will be playing multiplayer. I will just feel 'restricted' with the thought of not being able to access multiplayer if I don't keep up with the fees.

I paid for the game already who's essence is multiplayer. I don't want to pay incremental fees again.

I'll be wanting a refund if its true. No one purchased the game for the single player missions. It was basically £40 for multiplayer gaming.

Same, I really do hope I am wrong. But I also thought we would never have to pay for DLC as most of the time it should really be included with the game. Resi Evil was a prime example having the multiplayer actually on the disc but forced to pay to unlock. Even though on the PC we can get around that with a hack as they never released it.

No way would i pay a subscription,I already paid for the game...not intending to pay for it monthly on top too.

Of course il pay for DLC on its own as an extra,But a big no no for a monthly subscription.

There was no mention of this when i purchased the disc, to now add a monthly cost to play online/or whatever would breach the original purchase arrangement.

THIS!

I don't think they will on BF3, I would think some laws would be broken as this was not on the box/download when we all paid for it. But as I said earlier Battlefield Elite or BF4 if it gets made, could well be pay monthly.

Can't see this happening with BF3 but with future titles it's pretty much been a long time coming. I don't see how MMORPGs can get away with it but FPS can't. So long as new content is there and remains interesting and engaging it won't really fail.

Well I always thought MMO's always had new stuff all the time and everything you did was always new. I may be wrong with that but that's is how I thought they worked. I don't see how it could work with an FPS unless like guys have said earlier in the thread we got a new map each week?

Granted it would probably be harder to put out "new" content as such since there is only so much you can only do within an FPS. I'm sure there are other features you could add to an FPS to keep the interest, and more importantly warrant a monthly subscription - heaven forbid, EA would probably introduce some sort of RPG element or trading system to the game and turn it into an absolute farm fest. I'm just wildly speculating.

I know what they have planned, don't get your knickers in a twist, it's not as bad as you think it will be. If you plan to play the game for the foreseeable future and purchase all DLC, you'll get your moneys worth.

People seem to be ignoring this post.

Like I said, I know what the article is talking about, people need to stop worrying and wait until everything is officially announced. It's not bad, at all.

I would pay a REASONABLE monthly sub if it meant I could play on Sub servers with vigorous and in-depth anti cheat methods. Get caught and that's your sub banned and you can no longer play on such servers.

In addition to this I would expect it to be EA universal and not title specific.

I can see a subscription for all forseeable content that could be released or access to a 'VIP' area consisting of tournaments, other assignments / match challenges, co-op type acivities and the like that the pheasant folk can't access. I know i won't pay for whatever it is.

I wouldn't pay. I don't think I would pay for any online game in this way. I enjoyed BF3 when it came out and played quite a lot. I now play it rarely when I feel "in the mood". I enjoyed BFBC2 too, and played that on and off up until BF3 was released.

I just don't play these games enough to warrent spending money on monthly subscriptions just on the off chance that I want to play online. I probably played BF3 for around 5 hours in January, on and off throughout the month.

I really don't like this subscription model. I feel it would disadvantage and be unfair on the more casual gamer who enjoys online play, but not every night of the week!

XBOX COD Elite is a ****ing joke! £35 for a year, early/exclusive access to map packs and THEN YOU HAVE TO BUY THEM AS WELL? ****ing joke

I won't be buying into a subscription for a game that I've already paid £35 for. They won't help with hackers, they won't solve the punkbuster nonsense and they won't add any maps that you DON'T ALSO HAVE TO PAY FOR. It is EA wanting more money from us for inferior products.

Now don't get me wrong, I love BF3 most of the time but not for an extra £5 a month to line that **** CEO's pockets and receive nothing back!

Whilst I understand what subscriptions could bring (not just in this specific instance), I'm warey of it for the sole reason that if everyone decides to pick it up, that's a whole load of games I would probably avoid playing because I don't want multiple subscriptions to every tom, dick and harry company.

Some of these games for me are pick up and play, I played too much BF3 when it first came out and reach Colonel/45 or whatever it was before most people, burnt out and haven't touched it in months, however when I do decide to go back and play it, I'll be laughing in disgust if I'm to pay some additional fee to play again.

I've been paying subscriptions for over a decade so it's not something I'm totally against, in the MMO world I generally stick to one game to maximise time/effort but, yeah you see where I'm going.
