The *Official* Eve Online Thread

No point in wasting time restarting IMO, your old charecter will have 'some' skills that will still be useful and you never know you may return to doing some mining at some time in your career.

No doubt I will. I'm just not starting the whole mine in a frigate thing again xD

Is there anything I can use to counter the effects of a webifier?

I'm operating between 15-20km and if someone gets in close and webs me I will be knacked, would use a mid slot fort that.

What sort of mod would you recomend instead of the 200mm armor then to reduce incoming damage?

Snip[/QUOTE]

For fitting any ship you need to think about the type of ship and the bonuses it gives out.

As a general rule Gallente is armour tanked and uses hybrid turrets and drones (but there are a few exceptions).

You need to use the correct sized modules for the size of ship your using.

For PVE you need the following things DPS, Tank, Capacitor. Avoid anything else, including fitting modules (modules that increase CPU and power) as you should be selecting more suitable modules for your ship and they have a huge cost of 1 fitting slot.

So back to what I mentioned earlier, Gallente is armour tanked, Thorax has a bonus to Hybrid Turrets and Microwarpdrive.

Low slots you need:

Medium Armour repair (1)
Amour resistance Modules (2) (so you take less damage)
Magnetic field stabalizers (2) They increase Hybrid DPS

So thats tank sorted. So just capacitor and guns to sort out.

Also for Smaller ships (cruiser and below) you want a propulsion module because you need to 'kite' the enemy so they don't overwhelm you. Where as in a Battle Cruiser Or Battleship you can just sit there and take it like a Boss.

For Mid Slots then:

10Mn Afterburner (1) Use it to keep you out of the range of the enemy, but dont forget to turn it off if you don't need it as it drains your capacitor.

Cap recharger (2) These increase the cap recharge.

For High slots:
I would recomend Rail Guns rather than Blasters. Blasters have a very limited range. You want to fit the biggest ones that will fit that are Medium Size.

So either 5x Dual 150mm or 5x 200mm (250mm wont fit I can tell you that now) Also you want to fit Meta level 3/4 depending on price. You also want a range of ammo as they all have different range bonus.

The way the guns work is, as they get bigger they do more DPS but use more power and CPU.

Rig slots:

These are personnel, if you are finding that you run out of capacitor more then fit 'capacitor control circuit'. If you need more tank then you need two different rigs fit 2x 'Auxiliary Nanno Pumps' and 1x Nannobot Accelerator.

If you need both then split them but don't fit the Nannobot Accelerator rig as it increases capacitor usage by reducing the duration of the armour repair so it cycles faster.

If you need neither then fit Hybrid rigs (you can only fit 2 of 3 due limitations) ones that increase base damage and rate of fire.

You also want to make sure your using 5 Medium Drones (use hammerhead) as your ship has 50m3 drone capacity and 50 drone bandwidth. Drones break down into:

Light drones, 5m3 and 5 bandwidth each
Medium drones 10m3 and 10 bandwidth each
Heavy 25m3 and 25 bandwidth each

Don't deploy your drones until the mobs are shooting you or your drones will die.

But as some general advice, for PVE you want to really use a ship that is based around drones rather than turrets for Gallente as they are much more suited for it. Look into the Vexor, Myrmidon and Dominix. If your drone skills are not great, then train them up as they are really useful. The 3 main skills are Drones(+1 drone per level get to 5 ASAP), Scout Drone Operation (increases range 5KM per level) and Drones interfacing (increases damage by 20% per level)

EDIT

I should have said, before you buy anything off the market, you need to plug your skills and ship into Pyfa or EFT, I prefer Pyfa of the two. This allows you to see how the modules fit on your ship and you can see if you need any skills.

You can also browse fittings here (although read the comments as some fittings are just so bad).

He has an active shield repper on there in the screenshot btw not an extender... this is one of the unfortunate things about the tutorials for the game IIRC it takes you through shield repair first then armor repair in a manner that suggests you need both on your ship - which obviously isn't the case when you've played the game awhile.

I'd check failheap-challenge before battleclinic.

There's some really good fittings on battleclinic and some really bad fittings and the ratings system doesn't always differentiate between them very well.

There's a lot of people on there who rate and post fits but don't actually fly the ships in question.

Never duel tank any ship. Always, always always stick to a single type of tank and use the ships bonuses. So gallente normally have a bonus to rep amount on their ships, generally stick with that.

Fell for my first ever 'scam' last night :)

Was looking for a few cheapo ship to destroy and found a Moa with fittings on contract screen. Some of the fittings were worth 7-8m isk, thought selling them made me a profit and gave me a ship :) however I forgot I could not remove the Rigs, doh :) Th

Must have been sleepy

That's not a scam :D

A scam would be like... buying up all of a particular type of ammo in a system and then relisting it for 10* the price or selling you a Moa hull as a er... something good (pretty much anything that isn't a Moa).

What rigs were they?

God I miss this game, I just don't I have the time to play it anymore with a baby here and work being so busy...

Not played for well over a year or so now but had played from 2003 until then, love the game so much.

Wish there was a way to take a peek at what has changed without having to resub for a while, hopefully they will do a 5 day pass thing again on old accounts.

I am very jealous of all the people here playing still :)

That is not really a scam either, more like buying something then selling it for more is more like profiteering, a scam would be someone buying something and not getting it or getting not what they bought.

Damn, cant recall exactly will have to go have a look. They were shield based though.

After that I went and wasted money building stuff on a planet too, even after watching a video and guide I did it wrong and had to decommission :)

Not my best nights work...

If you need help starting out in PI send me an EVEmail 'Professor Alphane' I'll help you set something up if you like.

less than 24hrs from T2 Cloaking

Then it's about 4 more days and my Protty can be fully fitted in a PVP Cloaked setup

Cheers, I will bug when I am on.

I have a PC, Extractors, storage and refinery place now. So think I am back on track, kind of.

Well they might be useful rigs so you could either use the ship or sell it again for what you paid.

If they're shield rigs it may not be the comedy option.

Yeah I turned it into an 'Explorer' type ship so its not gone to waste can sell the hull to recoup a fair bit of the outlay so could have been worse.

I am just usually a lot more attentive than last night :(
