*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Thing is, when so many people leave and they got worried, I half expect some radical and stupid changes. Let's see.... ;p

Edit:

Soo on Niman, I attempted my own guild which turned out a lot of people who would've played a lot, did not.
I joined another and we managed to do everything in NM but disbanded a mere what? two and half weeks later because they all went back to wow.
Remnants of this guild merged with another in attempts to run 16man but, turns out it's more casual than hardcore and people rarely log in.
Was thinking of applying for the last decent guild on the server and last night they disbanded.
I'm tempted to form a group of people I've guilded with and see if they'll decide to stick it out and try again.

As far as I can see, there's only 1 guild actively recruiting on the forums and on republic, they want a guardian tank, I used to be a guardian tank, I have all the gear, but I switched to DPS because tanking in pvp was so gimped, never any healers, I've been in a full ops group for pvp (24 players) and sat there at 10% hp until I got out of combat and had to heal myself :(
There's also the immortals but, not to fault them but aren't there too many to get a recurring raid spot/do they raid often?

I'm not interested in 2 raids a week, or limiting myself to HM (I always strive for top tier gameplay) but in a decade I have yet to find "that" guild who will jump from MMO to MMO and spank all content, you're very lucky if you do find one. On top of my previous gripes I need to find a guild quick before I cancel. They have to PVP often too.

I don't know if it's MMO vets, I stuck to anarchy online for 6 years non stop and played on and off from then, I can still jump in and play more than a month.
WoW I played for years as well.
SWTOR? We've barely pushed over a month and everyone around me is quitting, dropping out, bored, done it all, everything was too quick and easy.

Maybe it's me, it probably is, fatigued of the genre, but I still want to play but it requires finding at least 7 other people who want to play as much as I do, and almost impossible task.
I dislike it when people say "lol get some friends then and do stuff" it's simply not something you can do at the snap of your fingers.

Our raid planner you decide, if a person wanted they could most likely raid 7/7 days a week.

All our raids are based on first to sign up gets in, there no 'A' team or a bunch of guys who raid by them selves, it ALWAYS first to sign up is in.

We PvP a lot so raiding teams always have plenty of spots available.
I could say I/we are nothing like some of the people on here try portray me as but only way you will ever know the truth is join up and find out.

We cleared the 16 man EV today, with quite a few newbies in the raid, was very chuffed!

Just one thing to note we a casual guild so we not near as far advanced some guilds raiding wise.

Edit: in fact rather don't m8, just reread what you said so don't think we would be a fit, seen as we not a decent guild.

Had an afk type person in our PvP warzones all bloomin night, must have been using some external program to move/control the character. This player called 'Bam' would move forward a few paces then stop, jiggle left to right a few times then move forward and repeat. Nothing you can do to kick the person out

Actually, mass effect 3 will provide a break while "hopefully" they fix a few things.

One thing I'm starting to find difficult - dealing with how bad most puggers are - also...

The last 20 warzones on my Vanguard have been me (L41) and 7 L10/20's VS 8 L40+....

It's beyond annoying, as in huttball, managed to score 2 solo & take out there ball carrier (pulling into fire) about 8 times just before they scored - but even then lost 6 - 2...

How can players be so bad, I know they are lower level - but 30k damage... seriously?.

I tested on my L10 gun-slinger - I average about 150k, I know damage isn't everything but if your entire team is doing none, it's impossible to kill anybody.

Had my first go at PvP last night with the people from TDR and realised 2 things.

A - My PC sucks. Need a much better CPU as it was lagging like mad.

B - I cannot use a standard UI and need more keybinds.

I eventually found out about moving the operation frame and increasing size of bars etc to allow easier healing but I got very lost very quickly. Managed to do a bit of damage and help a few kills and was 4th on healing done a couple of times but overall need more practice.

PvP at least does not feel as 1 sided against low levels as other games. I was only lvl 18 and the on disadvantage was a lack of trained abilities. I was not getting 1 shotted and had a good chance to heal myself as needed.

Have redesigned my entire UI with regards to frame placement and button layouts so hopefully it is more effective. Just need to retrain my fingers to where the new hotkeys are as I keep pressing the old ones. There is a big difference between Shiv and Kolto Injection and they have swapped buttons!

Just hit 49 on my Sentinel. Such good fun its crazy. DPS is mental and for the class to shine, you need to know how to play it well.

The guild i'm in (The Dirty Dozen) on Hydian Way is part of a coalition and we have an external chat channel where the two guilds can group up for things and search for good players. Works really well.

Its a mature guild so nearly everyone is older then 20 and quite a lot have kids. Our raid times are 2-3 times a week, but the guild always has huge amounts of players on considering the size (Around 30-40 people).

No rushing, no pressure. Great atmosphere.

Had a thought. Have a spare motherboard (Dead) with a Q8200 in it (Working). Is it worth putting this in my current 775 board to replace the E6300 in it for SWTOR? I always thought the Q8200 was a poor chip. Worth buying a Q6600 instead? Much difference between the 3 options?

Put the Q8200 in and clock it if you can, since you already have it there's not much point buying something new.

The game's engine is rather bad though, and doesn't use multi-cores and gpu's all that well.

Thanks. Will give it a go. I am looking to go to i5 this year anyway so its £50 I can save not buying a Q6600. Waiting for a good payday and will then look for a 2nd hand bargain on someones old i5 bundle. :)

That sounds like a plan alright.

The Devs stated that the game likes CPU's so it'll be a nice upgrade later on.

Although despite what they say, a balanced system will do wonders and surpisingly the game loves ram and vram because of it's texturing.

As they're stating they'll be improving the graphics to match the cutscene quality a nice system should go a long way.

Don't be too worried when the game doesn't get a big boost at first with just the Q8200, as they are still improving the engine to make it utilize more resources and more efficiently.

Can't go wrong with an i-5 2500k ;)

As I recall they actually reccomended something like that :)

Although I and many other still think it's all down to their engine being unfinished and unoptomized.

Even so the 2500k, is a brilliant cpu. Especially if you're coming from that Q8200 :D

Biggest problem will be just how much I need to buy with new mobo, RAM and CPU. Probably should have done it sooner but decided to put last upgrade on a Crucial 128Gb M4. Its limited by the board speed (I have put in a SATA3 RAID controller but its capped at 2.5GBps by the PCI-E bus).

Will keep my eye on MM for a bargain :)

Either way will pop the Q8200 in tonight and see how it plays. Hopefully it a bit better.

You might see a little different but this games engine is pretty poor right now, I still get lag in ilum when there are more than 30-40 people fightings, And i upgraded to a i5 2500k @ 4.6 and nvidia 570 with 8gb ram and new ssd drives.

Basically this game has a terrible *cough* single player *cough* engine.

Indeed, my framerate isn't amazing & I'm running an i-5 at 4ghz, 16g RAM & an overclocked 6970 (with game & operating system running on an SSD).

Well an SSD is a good upgrade. Lord knows I still need one as my entire system is held back by my HDD.

Even though it's an HDD/SSD hyrbid it's ok but doesn't have anything on an SSD.

I take it you're happy with your monitor and GPU then? As such it shouldn't be that expensive just getting a new mobo, ram and cpu.

Since ram is so cheap you might as well get 8GB.

Also if you're running windows 7, I suggest running the launcher in Windows XP SP3 compatibilty mode. It helps improve performance a bit as well.
Also turn shadows off, they're super fugly and cause a big performance hit.

Not exactly, we can thank bioware Management for using an engine that was never finished and decided to "finish" it themselves.

As such they haven't received any update for the engine code since 2007, meaning no DX10/11 improvements. no performance upgrades for client and serverside and many more.

The current HERO Engine is massively better than the custom finish job Bioware has.

It also shows that they need two SWTOR.exe's to run together just to get Multi-cpu support. While the current Hero Engine can offer very good CPU scaling on multiple cores.

Just got given a Dell 2001FP and Nvidia 260GTX for free so happy with those for now.

TOR and Windows 7 are all that is on the SSD.

I think I was budgetting around the £250-£300 mark for CPU/Mobo/RAM but obviously 2nd hand might be cheaper. Running 8Gb of RAM now and would not go lower but might move up to 16 if cheap enough.

Have turned off shadows and will try the XP SP3 trick tonight :)

Thanks
