Thanks guys, it's still very affordable compared to other hobbies then!

Is it worth learning how to true and build wheels yourself or is it a false economy after buying the necessary tools and time it takes to do?
It is worth learning how to true a wheel. You only need a spoke key because you can do it with the wheel in situ and use the brake blocks as a guide.

I've built loads of wheels from scratch now and done all of them without a special stand. I just true them in the forks or frame upside down :)

You won't necessarily build cheaper wheels, but you'll be able to build (and rebuild) the wheels you want. Particulary good for me because I'm using combinations of new and vintage rims, new and vintage hubs, and old wheels with tired spokes. I can use the spokes I like too :)

I always think of hoogerland + voeckler when i remember that crash, i always forget that poor fletcha was caught up in it too :(

Don't think Voeckler was involved?

I've just done my research and found that dogma is a £5,500 discount. Very sorely tempted now!

Was gonna say, seemed a bargain. Electronic shifting?

Not directly, no. But he was in the breakaway with them and the peleton had stopped chasing. They had quite a big time gap and Tommy would have got the yellow jersey that day if it wasnt for the crash.
At the time, i was disappointed thinking that Voeckler missed out on a day or 2 in yellow. Looking back, he could have won the tour if it wasnt for that crash.

Are Kuota Korsa Lite's any good? I have seen one quite local to me at a reasonable'ish price but can't find much information about them online even on the Kuota website it fails to list the fork and components on this model?

Good ride this morning.

Took the TT bike out for a wee spin to make sure it's ready for next weekend.
Did 10 miles in just under 27 mins, which im quite pleased with as the 10 course up here is not very flat.
I did that course every week last season and never went under 25, so 27 is quite good for this early in the season :)
Looking forward to next weekend now.

Here is the garmin log.

Finally got my hands on a new stem, 100mm instead of 120mm. My only worry is that the back of the stem is 'open' on this new one (as in, part of the steerer will be visible from the back). Is this something i should be worried about with a carbon steerer, for example will it be applying more pressure in certain points due to the open back, or is it just cosmetic?

[EDIT] Just read an article, going to steer clear of this stem and resell it as apparently cutaways are known to crack carbon steerers.

Not bad for an 18st obese dude if I do say so myself!

Ah yeah, you're right. :) I forgot that side of it.

Anyone know a cheap place to get one of these? My left one has fallen off at some point (probably because I've been turning the bike upside down and resting it on the hoods :o) and I can only find them for like 10 quid on eBay.

Shimano 105 (5510 I think). Thank you very much.

Don't think you'll be able to get a bike shop to order one of those in for much, if anything less than £10. Seems like a decent price.

I didnt know guernsey had 12 miles of road :p

Seriously tho, thats a good average speed.

That was about half way round the islands coast to be fair! When I reached that point I turned around and did the same route home, so about 26 miles total.

Here's a link to the route if interested, it's a great place to ride scenary wise but the coastal winds can be a pain!
