The *Official* Eve Online Thread

I'm still running lvl2 missions, but I wanna get PvPing ASAP (a few members of my corp are newbies and undertrained for PvP so we're not doing any yet) and feel that rush. Though I'm under no illusions my money will last very long once I start losing ships, especially as I'm aiming at inties.

No offence but that's hogwash!

A few years ago I created a new character on each of my 2 accounts, got them trained to fly frigs and to warp scramble and joined a high sec pirate corp called Darkness Inc.

We spent the majority of our time flying frigs and causing trouble and had a great time doing so, in fact, it was the best time I had in eve. :)

Strength in numbers :)

EDIT: Anyone got a decent setup for a domi for lvl 4's? Drone skills up to T1 sentries etc

A decent mix of drones, with some lights in the mic for the frigs. Also may be useful to take some heavy drones as it means you can fly around looting and salvaging without having to return to your sentries at the end.

As for the ship, dual large repper, resists and dcu in the lows, focus on cap recharge in the rigs and mids, with maybe a target painter and you should be fine. If you are struggling for cap stability you could drop a heavy nos in the highs and keep something small alive to drain while you mop up everything else. Also keep at least one large railgun in the highs so you can get aggro from everything before you release your drones, especially if you like to play in afk mode ;)

I'd always recommend looking at the Tuskers if you're after low-sec pirate and meet the requirements. Good guys and the opposite of dull and boring.

Thom, while it's true you do need ISK flow to pew pew I wouldn't wait for any magical "enough SP" point to start.

The main thing is to start ****ing up horribly ASAP so you can get it out of the way :P

Created a trial account and come back to EVE to see what it was like now! Loving it so far, forgot how much I missed it. My old account (last played when wormhole space and that lot came out in the expansion), is currently being caretakered by an old corpmate of mine, just trying to get in touch with him again so I can get the log in details!

If anyone fancies adding my trial character to their contacts, his name is Stanlow Refin. Currently training to max out frigs (tech 1 for now; I don't think you can do T2 frigs in the Trial period, besides probably won't be enough time lol)

i personally wouldnt bother with a domi until you have either t2 heavies (Orge II's) or t2 sentries.

Setup should be:

LOWS: Duel LAR, DCU, mission specific hardners
MIDS: Cap rechargers
HIGHS: drone mods to increase range, tractor beams, salvagers and some form of turret to grab aggro
RIGS: 3xCCC

I know it is a lot more but really have a look at the Navy Domi especially if you are going into Amarr space - the extra tracking links you can fit on there really make a difference and the local NPCs will melt against therm damage. I usually run a couple of rattlesnakes and they are the better ship by far unless you are in Amarr space and then the Navy Dom shines. I also tend to use heavies over sentries. If you wanted to be really "gamey" make a new email account give yourself a trial use that account char to agro the the nastier mission NPCs in a stupidly fast t1 frigate closely orbiting the domi with a shield transport in the domi high - I've done that before in level 4s and you can really add some nice drone upgrades then. As for the dom fit though 2 x LAR in the lows with appropriate resists, mids cap rechargers, high agro turret + tractor + drone range +++, rigs drone scope sentry damage if you going that route and more cap regen and as above get them T2s they really make a difference - also note the sentries dont need the race specialisation to the degree heavies do.

I know I could be PvPing by now but I don't want to start solo, it'd be hard to learn without knowing what mistakes I'm making. I've thought about looking for a new corp but these guys have been good to me, the CEO especially has really helped me out so I don't wanna suddenly ditch them.

Solo PvP is tough, especially in frigs where you can kill\die so fast you're never really sure what you did right or what mistakes the opponent made. Although if you can afford a stack of 5-10 rifters it's a good way to get the feel of how low sec and 0.0 environments work.

You may find your corp has some blues who roam more often and can probably hook up.

Oh crap, my training queue ran out on Friday evening, haven't had time to log back in...

So many skill points lost :(

Conversely if you only ever fly in fleets of 20 I don't think you have to do enough thinking to really learn how and why stuff happens.

Solo you have direct feedback for your actions.

I don't do PvP but as I would imagine it going solo it's going to be hard to find a 'hard target'.

Yes you might be able to pop a few PvEer's on quick trips in to low in bad fits but PVP types rarely go out alone (unless there real good ) .

/edit also the idea of learning PvP in an expensive hull could be er... expensive maybe. Don't fly what you can't afford to lose

//edit perhaps the best way to get some experience fighting PVP is find a freind in a similar situaton create two dummy corps and wardec each other. Fly to a quiet place and have a bash at each other, you can aslo play 'armour down' rules, ie you unlock and stop firing as soon as your opponents hull touches red, you win but no ones ship gets vaped.

Or join Red vs Blue. Two high sec corps constantly at war with each other. Lots of fights (and a fair amount of station and gate camping to be fair). But the fleets are generally T1 frigates and cruisers.

You can get some experience if you can afford to bring half a dozen Atrons with T1 fittings.

I highly recommend it.

Just join the same corp and shoot each other. No repercussions and you don't have to pay wardec fees.

Player corps, yes. NPC corps, no.

It's a good way to get people interested and stuff anyway.

My corp used to have tournaments pretty regularly. Just for the love of god structure the rules so kitey missile boats with RSDs cannot win (I suggested making a warpout a draw) or that's all people will bring :(

Hmmm....had my first real flutter in low-sec earlier, set out with a clean clone and a decent Incursus fit, hunted a Kestrel to play with, he warped of and his buddy warped to me in a Taraniss...got him into structure before I popped...

Now, back into Amamake I go :D

Repost from the official forums

Now I love alting, and want to try and invstigate as much of EVE's diverse gameplay as I can.

Now the best way to do this IMO is to have a few alts training in paralel. All well and good but WHAT to train is the question I'm finding it hard to get my head round.

So if you don't mind me asking .

If you are a specialist in any area of the game.

What is your specialist area ?

And which skills are important for your job ?

Thought I'd ask here as well

Typically you have an alt that compliments your main.

This can be like... ganglinks, ECM, probing etc.

A hauler alt is a common thing too.

What does your main do?

P hard to take on in an incursus. Your best bet is probably to outrange him with null or railguns.
