Edition 30 Golf GTi - any opinions?

Looked at the 335i and 330i but unfortunately it would need to be a touring as I need to cart a dog around so the saloon/coupe is out.

so something like this would do?

Totally agree. :D

ohhh that does look nice

Ed30s have the larger turbo, they remap to silly power

but it still front wheel drive :(

An Edition 30 is much more refined and comfortable than an FN2 type R. He may want this.

I'd agree with this - its a lot more comfortable/classy than my current car with a far better interior. 5 doors is handy as well. I'd also agree that I'm in two minds on whether to spend 4k for the differences..

The BMW and Golf are two totally different cars though?

The golf will be much more of a pleasure to drive quickly. The BMW will be a great mileage cruncher although quicker yes but much more boring.

Seems like a pointless sideways step from your current car.

The FN2 is an uncomfortable, rattly, gutless car (I owned one between 2008 and 2010). The GTI is much better built, much more comfortable, more economical, faster and a much nicer place to be.

That looks fantastic, must see if they can provide more photos. Only thing I'd be worried about with that is the reliability + costs if things went wrong. Need to look into the BMW warranty for that sort of mileage...

well as long as BMW do not know its over 60k just take out the warranty on a monthly basis so its should only cost 50 pounds per month.

running costs will not be much more then the golf (insurance i don't know) if its under warranty maybe an extra 500 to 1k per year max more then the golf?

Why have I never heard of a Golf GTi Pirelli edition? They look amazing!!!!

The ED30 is a lovely car too, and can see why you are wanting one over the FN2. Much better car IMHO. Although try and get the ED30 with leather seats as those Burberry style ones are horrific.

No not at all. Yes it will do 0-60 in less that 6 seconds, but it will be such a smooth and quiet car I personally wouldn't get any thrill from it. I'd much rather a B road blast in the Gold than a big weighty BMW estate.

All down to personal preference and what you look for in a car, but for me a hat hatch on some B roads is a lot more fun to drive than a big BMW estate which will be like sitting on a sofa.

Sorry poor example there. :)

That's fair enough if you want a hot hatch, but to call the 335i "boring" is just plain wide of the mark.

I've not driven one but I don't need to - it's universally accepted as being one of the best cars in it's class for driver enjoyment and all-round ability.

Not many in the UK thats why. Literally think there is only about 100 pirelli editions in the UK. ;)

Best looking GTI out there in my opinion.

OP go for pirelli. :p

Thats why I said it's all personal preference, :)

I wouldn't turn either car down to be honest. BMW would be great for the mountain bike.

If im honest my E92 335i is boring to drive compared to my RS Clio 182.

my 2010 fn2 seems fine

Its the most uncomfortable, bone juddering ride in any car I've ever owned.
The seats are horrendously uncomfortable.
The engine is gutless (it makes a nice sound but there isn't much to go with it)
Fuel economy is shocking for a 2.0L engine
The seats don't even return to the correct position when you pop them forward!

The Golf is vastly superior.
