The *Official* Eve Online Thread

Yeah AS are on the list of things to train for. :) They'll get got in the next couple of weeks.

I've just stuck in some scorch, it's made a massive difference so I think I'm sorted now. Having to get so close for conflag was screwing me up.

The problem with frigs in PVE is your tank is dependent on damage mitigation.

Going fast, being small, flying "under the guns" (that is to say - flying faster than a turret can properly track and so reducing the quality of hits the firer can achieve) all mitigate against incoming damage.

You can suddenly lose that though by "tacking" across the firing lane wrong, by getting webbed, by flying too far out or at the wrong angle to the guns and suddenly be taking a load of damage that your actual tank cannot cope with.

It's actually not a bad way to learn about the damage formulas but being able to really tank the deeps is an easier way to do it.

T1 Cruiser/BC is a great pvp learning ship.

T1 fit, plated - cheap & cheerful.

My cruiser (Omen) and BC (Harby) are both crap, I take less damage in my slicer, probably due to my (lack of) training. Hell, I was trying to do recon yesterday (stupid lvl2 mission that's insanely hard for somer reason) and my slicer lasted about as long as my BS (geddon) before I had to warp out (and only cost 5000 to repair the hull damage instead of 1.7mil).

I definitely am gonna stuck with frigs for now until my base skills are up. I'm enjoying the dogfight style instead of the slower paced "float around and pewpew" of bigger ships. Once my base skills are all 4+ I'll go back to my BC and try that again.

Missions do not = PvP. I has some fun doing L4s in lowsec in an AF, but it's not really a great way of running missions, Most of the T2 and faction frigates are PvP ships. If you fit your Harby right it should be a walk in the park on L2s, and an Omen should be ok too, L2s are pretty much designed with cruisers in mind, you can even do them in destroyers. PvP is totally different to missions, a PvP fit ship would normally suck at them (with some exceptions) and a mission fit ship would blow for PvP.

T2 Medium Blasters, done!
T2 Drones are training now...only 5 days to go :)

Think I'll train upto T2 Large Blasters as well...as I use BS's a fair bit :) It's T2 drones I'm REALLY looking forward to :D

I understand that :p I just enjoy zipping around in a frig more than I enjoy sitting about pewpewing from longer range atm.

I have two inties, one's fit for PvE (more damage, SAR, AB etc) and one's for PvP (more speed, warp disruptor, MWD etc). I'm not trying to use a PvP ship for PvE, just the same hull and I'm enjoying the challenge. :)

Gallente BS's are of questionable usefullness tbh.

Depends a bit on what it's for. Dual-LAR cruiser gun domi is good for solo/small gang. Dual/Triple rep hype is good for solo/small gang (assuming soloing in a BS seems sensible to you).

RR Domi is OK (does anyone run RR these days? :S) although in those fleets although I kinda prefer the phoon.

I also have a mega fit with 50km-ish range and similar resist profile to an abaddon that works OK with logi. Remind me ingame for the fit (Annie Anomie in OCUK chan) if you want.

Generally though Abaddon is king for armour doctrine. Large Scorch + Housebrick tank are hard to beat.

I'm going to set my self a challenge to see how much I can make in a month if I really grind EVE.

So any hints and tips for me how to best optimise my time :D

My 2 Pilots are BC ready just if that helps

Grrr.... EVE is like a drug :( LOVE the game, started to use my Retriever again, mining only Scordite in Urlen, I pulled about 25 Mill in around 2 hours... Mining with my mate in a hidden area I pulled around 50 Mill in the same time with Omber and Kernite... Not sure where I can go with my mining, so I am speccing towards a Hulk that I have to see whats what...

Flew an Incursion on my other account with 50+ others, a HQ thing, netting me over 300 Mill for about 3-4 hours work... The CNR I got for 150 Mill has been great!

What race are the characters?
I'd imagine wormhole exploration would probably be the best earner you'll find unless you move to null.

Does anyone here do serious trading and can give some advice? Since invention and rig building have taken a hit to their margins since i last played I'm looking to get my capital working for me in other ways.

I'm station trading in Amarr at the moment, doing various t2 and meta4 mods. Found a few decent items with good returns and volume but i'm struggling to scale it. How do people manage to invest 10bil+?

When I played, I had trouble knowing what to do with lots of money in the market as well. I dabbled in implants and shipping them out from jita.

Gallente missioning plus a fair whack of industry (possibly science as well) skills (free years ago when created)

Amar mining/refining can fly BC though I think though not a good combat pilot

Also have a Minmatar alt with some trading skills

Out of interest, seeing as a few people have asked about wormholes recently, would people be interested in making use of a C2 wormhole if I can find an empty one and stick up a tower? Don't necessarily need to change corps, but it would probably make life easier.

C2 means the sites are possible solo in a decent BC or BS, there will always be a direct hisec, and there will be links to another wormhole. Bit of risk involved, but also should be more profitable than L4s, and a lot more exciting. Also lots of high-end ores when grav sites pop up, and great for PI.

Following Koren's above comment... .We've been chatting about some ideas ingame and there seems to be a few people potentially interested.

It would be a good basis for returning players to get stuck back in to a range of things in a group without the monotone of sitting doing level 4s. You get a chance to get stuck in with PvP and make lots of isk :)

I've just returned after an 18 month break, still a little rusty but I'd be interested in this wormhole caper.
Beggs in game.

My protty is ready

Nice. My alt got to wheel out the Prot in anger for the first time last night - just about have the skills needed to use it tho its lacking thermodynamics :( and was shovelling in the MWD/evasive manouvers skills as I warped towards destination system lol. Less than a month til that char has maxed out prot skills tho :D
