How do you meet new people?

These days, generally through a hobby.
Since I started riding mountain bikes, I've met a tremendous number of people and have made quite a few good friends in the process.

sign up for the forever alone fan club and embrace it!

on a more serious note i know a guy who used to go out to clubs/pubs on his own and now he has a whole new circle of friends and he barely ever sees the old lot anymore.

we later found out he was gay though and he must have wanted some gay frinds but i bet straight people can do the same thing easy enough

Been to loads of OcUK meets and some Reddit meetups and made some good friends that way. Always helps when you have a common interest. A lot of the 'friends' I had local to me were utter knobs so I wanted to get out of that circle and find some proper friends.

Just wondered what people did to meet new people.
Me and my wife split a few months back, and well, it suddenly dawned on me then, that we moved away from all my family and friends, and well I don't really have a social life.
Do people join clubs and things, because I would feel uncomfortable attending something on my own.

For this very reason I keep in touch with my friends/mutual friends.

First rule of girlfriend/wife club, Never ditch your mates.

I've met many mates through gigs and music websites like last.fm. Also go to the Glasgow couch surfing events from time to time and all the folk are pretty sound. I would recommend going to more clubs or things you are interested in.

Due to gigs and music websites I have met lots of mates outside my own social circle.

I met some pro-looking cyclist on the way to work one day, got chatting and joined the cycling club he is in (went on many a 30-50 mile ride over the summer with lots of club members). Varied age ranges of people there (both male and female).

I also spotted my neighbour (newly moved in) on his bike, got chatting and he comes over for beers every few weeks and bbq's in the summer. I guess it depends what your interests are and what sort of people you want to meet.

I am also friendly with people at work, go out for beers with them now and then and often play on the xbox during the winter on COD ;D

JUST your trench coat... ;)

How witty of you to highlight the thing that - due to how humour works - he didn't have to mention.

I'm not sure I would've gathered he meant flashing if it weren't for your startling clarification.

Thanks man.

Have you considered joining a local Gym or a Fitness Class (if of course that takes your fancy)?

*Note to self*
Must try to do the above.

Gym's a no-no because everyone is plugged into their headphones. Salsa dance classes are better, where you do a bit of solo, pairs and groups then you have a laugh about it before/after class.

I've met at least 5 people off World of Warcraft and one couple have made me their honoury uncle for their baby due next month. The great thing is that none of us play WoW any more but we still see each other.

I've never done the dating scene though. Not sure what to make of that.

Post-university this is considerably harder, the only people I've met recently are either work colleagues (meh) and friends of friends that don't live in the same City. I'm dying for a house party!
