GAME lose another supplier

Seems Capcom have pulled the SF vs Tekken game from GAME\Gamestation too.
And Asura's Wrath

Yep just read that too on ComputerAndVideoGames.

I dont care what anyone says.... The loss of capcom is as big as the EA loss.

Its over for them guys!

This is how stupid they are in Leeds town alone, stores marked with spot:

3 stores within 2 minute walks of each other, then you have to remember the other stores like CeX and HMV that surround them. We have shed loads of their stores in Leeds and it's a waste of money for them.

Huge waste of money. They need to downsize big time!

There is no need for all those stores.... Surely it would make more sense to concentrate on online sales?!

Perhaps they know something I dont.... What have I missed?

It's been a long time coming.

Everyone knows most of Games profits come from the second hand market, this way the publishers don't make a penny, all the profits go towards Game.

Game would rather sell you a second hand copy of a game than have you buy a brand new one, it's more profitable for them this way.

EA and other publishers have caught on to this, and now with the introduction of digital downloads, they can cut out the middle man, that being Game in this case.

Most or all of the shops they operate are going to be on lease arrangement, some 'rumoured' data was floating around the web a while back which I can't find a link to at the moment. If it's true then it won't be a simple case of closing the shop down, they will also have to negotiate out of the lease.

It's only a guess but as a lot of these shops are within prime retail locations it may be more cost effective to run them at a loss compared to closing them.

If it was that simple I'm sure GAME would have closed some of the multiple stores some time ago.

LOL I think the best one is MK, Game and Gamestation are opposite each other in the same row of say 10 shops - so is CEX!!! Considering how long GAME have had Gamestation you would expect at least some reduction in stores even with long-lived business leases, but the only stores Ive ever seen shut down are the old EB ones, to me that sounds like they were happy to keep 2 stores per town centre/shopping centre/location...

Yup, and there's another Game in the other part of the centre.

Not sure what they were playing at keeping the Eb stores, sunderland have two game stores and a gamestation, newcastle are the same, So is the metro centre. That's 9 game owned stores all within 20-30min drive.

You do realise that EB bought Game? They rebranded to Game when they feel out over the annual service charge that EB US were charging for usage of the name following their original bailout when they were still Futurezone??

Does it matter considering the current topic at hand? Unless you are referring to the possibility that it might be a US registered company or something and so affected by differing bankruptcy laws?

I did know this yes,

Ok I don't know why they didn't close the "Original" Game stores... Apart from all the original Game stores up here are better placed and have more floor space, Typically EB stores were much smaller than Game.

Still you get the idea, They have way too many stores with overheads (it seems all over the country) no wonder they price stuff strong.

Oh I agree they have far to many stores in to close proximity to each other, assume there must be some lease or other reason why they'd keep them open as to keep that many stores that close together makes little sense.

Its all rather confusing, whoever bought whoever out, leases withstanding, why would they think having say more than 2 stores in the same location is an acceptable idea? I know business leases can be long, but surely that would have been the first thing to be looked at as a long-term strategy...

Perhaps the boom in gaming made them short-sighted, just seems a bit ridiculous in hindsight (what a lovely thing :p) looking at how they are doing now; and to top it off surely being in this situation isnt news to them, so trying to reduce all the retail space could have been prioritised higher, even if it meant additional short-term costs in an attempt to secure its future...

I think they went for the "have more stores with higher prices so hopefully people will go to our shop because we have more of them" tactic.

I think the "have one store with the cheapest prices compared to competitors so people make the effort to buy from our one store" tactic would have worked better.

I mean when did they all change to Game? 2005 or so? They should have off loaded the stores then as plenty of places were still riding a credit bubble.

Never mind, Will just have to see how it goes for them, Do feel for the staff as they ain't all bad and the last thing anywhere needs are more people on the job hunt :(

Actually I have, it's a horrible industry and I can't wait to get out of it for good, but putting up a sign like that, regardless of the intent, is hugely foolish and a sure-fire way to alienate any potential customers in the first place.

Really................ If you think that you should get out tomorrow.

There is a huge difference between someone going in to a store to spend £30 on a game or £250 on a console, there is no inbetween so anyone wanting to purchase a Vita would arrive with intent to do so. If the staff are savvy enough they should also be able to spot the difference between a grubby group of 13 year olds with school bags (who as a matter of fact would probably have his/her parents purchase the thing irrespective of trying it out but I'm sure by this point that young individual would have spent x amount of hours on the console in store before the sign went up ) and a potential customer.

Few years before that with the rebrand and they bought them during 1999. The strange one is the Gamestation stores that were bought much later ironically from Blockbuster, these really did co-exist nearby to Game stores.

I agree sorry for the staff who don't deserve to be caught up in the mess caused from above...

Getting even worse for GAME

High street retailer Game appears to be running out of lives after yet another publisher's titles have been pulled from its shelves.

Following last week's revelation that the struggling chain would not be stocking highly anticipated new video game releases 'Mass Effect 3' and 'Mario Party 9', Capcom announced yesterday (March 5th) that 'Street Fighter x Tekken' and 'Asura's Wrath' will also not be stocked by Game. This crisis has seen the company's stock plummet on the FTSE 100, with Game Group's shares currently trading down 11 per cent to 4.27.

Mark Photiades, an analyst at Singer Capital Markets, told the Guardian that the retailer will lose between £1.5 million and £2 million in gross profit this year as a result of not stocking Mass Effect 3 alone.

The company, whose revenue has been hit by both internet sales and streaming services, attempted to mitigate the damage by signing up with Gaikai to deliver fans game previews at the point of sale.

Not looking good at all.

In Southampton city centre, there's a gamestation and 4 games within a 15 minute walk of each other. 2 of the Games are literally 1 minute walk apart. If that's not a waste of money I don't know what is
