****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Yeah branded, you could always root and flash a non branded ROM, that way you get updated as they roll out.

I imagine not. Well maybe, no idea as I've never used Kies before :p My phone is sim free but I always root and go custom ROM.

So when the ICS Update gets rolled out via Kies will an untouched version get uploaded to XDA Forums for example and I'd just have to root and flash it? Is it as simple as that?

Cheers

You could just flash an Odin flashable one yeah, you don't need root for that, it flashes as a stock ROM without root.

Makes sense, I have used Odin before but I can't remember for which device it was.

I'm on 2.3.5 now and I'm aware 2.3.6 is available however T-Mob didn't roll it out because it only included network specific hotfixes so it wouldn't really be worth the hassle of upgrading to it? I'm thinking I should wait for the ICS one to get released and then move forward from there?

Cheers

I'm thinking of moving from Omega to CheckRom when they release ICS in the next few days.

Does it come with its own Kernel or will it keep my current one? Likewise does the kitchen come as standard part of CheckRom?

you have to download it from the market - the kitchen app :)

im on checkrom for now MIUI got really buggy with the last update.

Tempted to try that one as I previously had an olde rversion^^

I'd just wait really, it's a day or two away now!

Kernel (and modem) is indeed included but because there are no ICS kernel sources out at the moment (and won't be at ICS release) you'd be running an official rooted kernel (CF-Root) until Samsung release sources.

I just wanted to quote this and say it's one of the best custom ROM's I've ever seen.

The experience is very similar to the one on the Galaxy Nexus and more importantly, the battery life is absolutely brilliant.

Well worth a try and I haven't found any issues so far (I'm on 9.5).

Did you try 9.6 and rollback or just been happy on 9.5? :)

(Either way I'll give 9.6 a shot now)

EDIT - Downloading 9.6 seems like a lot of effort and comments aren't that favourite, I'll try 9.5

I haven't tried 9.6 at all, the bug list looked a bit iffy and 9.5 seems perfectly fine to me so I can wait for the next version or whatever.

The HTC One series camera has been a let down as well so that's 2 fails in 24 hours so far :p

Agreed. I'm still on 9.3 actually, everything I need works and its extremely stable. My current uptime since last reboot is currently 261 hours so I'm staying on 9.3 until there is an official ICS release.
