****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

http://www.2shared.com/file/jY1OiWWb/CF-Root.html :).

Go to recovery, plug phone in, dump that on there then flash it :). I'm guessing it should work, it's the zip from another kernel, I just swapped zImages out, I have no idea how to make them properly :p.

If it doesn't work, just flash back to GB and start again :p.

And just to make sure that I don't balls it up, am I hitting "apply update from zip" or "install zip from SD card"?

If from internal SD is there, you want that one, otherwise what you said :).

Depends on CWM version :) (the only difference it would make is whether or not you can find the file or not though :)).

Oh, and 2shared has the same crappy 330kBps cap that hotfile does, won't be using either of those in future :(.

Just updated my dad's phone with LPQ from Android 2.3.3 (lol).

I'm not going to root it as I just know he's going to go "OMG WTF" as soon as he tries to install Sky go or Barclays apps that won't work when rooted.

You need to get the test Sky Go app quick :p no ICS support with the one from the market :D

Thanks for the help - hopefully my last issue. I can't mount my phone as a mass storage device through CWM. I've chosen mount as USB Mass Storage device, but my Mac's not picking anything up...

Oh, you has a Mac, hmm, forgot about that. I have no idea how mass storage works on Macs :(.

I'm guessing USB storage worked fine before? Since you had to get the stuff on it originally? Or did you just download straight to phone and not try mass storage?

I downloaded it to the phone when it was "on" (rather than in recovery mode).

Don't worry, I think I've sussed it - I'm using my trusty old HTC Hero as a card reader :D

I've not heard this - could be part of Vlingo? (It comes up when you double-press the home key). You may have quit the app, possibly?

Yeah it's awesome. In fact, when there's just one email, she says '1 new emailS' :p

Well my voice recognition is set to google. I think it's always been on that and I don't think I've accidentally switched from samsung powered by vlingo. I've also got driving mode on which is 'incoming calls and new notifications will be read out automatically'. Actually, I've just looked in driving mode settings and all boxes are ticked including New emails 'Read out number of new emails received'.
I wonder why it's stopped working then. In text to speech settings, I've got 'Always use my settings' (default settings below override application settings) ticked, and the default engine 'set speech synthesis engine to be used for spoken text' is set to Pico TTS.

ICS's voice recognition is now realtime and is very very good. I also like the fact that Samsung have implemented their more than one item clipboard so you can store many things in there but have also kept the new text input bits from pure ICS - This is exactly what I was hoping for, brilliant!

They've also implemented vibration intensity settings for individual notifications and touch feedback instead of the one setting that covers all - Equally brilliant.

Roll on CheckROM :D

Alright, I've now got the zip on an external SD, but the update gets aborted.

Any ideas? Or should I just find a Gingerbread ROM to go along with my kernel? (If so, can anyone recommend where to look? Can it be any Gingerbread ROM or will I need to find a match!?)

I'm regretting starting this in the evening :p

I just downloaded it from 2shared on my phone and flashed it fine :p. Obvious didn't boot though because I'm on Gingerbread :D.

Just download checkrom or villainrom .zip, flash and start again.

This time make sure you flash the CF-Root lpq kernel though :p.

Probably sage advice :p

All of the Checkroms are basd on Gingerbread aren't they? Will download v6 and give that a whirl if so!

Yeah, that one will be fine :).

Remember in future to always do a CWM backup. Sure, it's a waste of 5 minutes when you upgrade with no problem, but can save so much time if there's a problem for whatever reason :).

I think I may have just worked out what's happening with your zip. Safari was extracting it automatically and saving it as a folder for me . These Macs think they're too clever for their own good.

Going to try again with Firefox.

I think the LPQ modem is very good on GB (CheckROM v6) I was able to peak 7Mbps on HSDPA where I was getting up to 5 previously on KL1/KI4/KI3.

Battery performance using it also seems to be better.
