****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I'm back to Checkrom 6 (ICS skinned) after flirting with CM9 and a tweaked stock ICS ROM. Just not polished enough so I'm happy to wait for Checkrom 7 as I know whatever they release will be better than what is out there now.

Wow thie UltraICS ROM is a handful. Flashing the AOSP contacts/telephony zip means you get the excellent AOSP contacts app but you also get phone and mms as well. Now I prefer so this fixes the contcats edit = FC issue due to the changed system ui files from the theme but it also means you get the Phone application FCing when making a call (lol).

So I extracted the telephony provider apk file from the ROM zip and pasted that replacing the AOSP one only leaving contacts as is.....so now I have a Frankenstein of a setup :p

At least it works and looks quite good until something is done about the CM9 bugs of AOKP (Hydrogenics) which I really do want or CheckROM.

Just flashed Siyah's LPJ Alpha 5 kernel on Hydrogenics, deep sleep is working properly now and battery life isn't dropping like the stone it has been. Only been half hour since I flashed it so will let you know how it fares with medium-heavy use.

Cool I'll be interested to know how that goes as at this rate I will be back on that AOKP ROM by later on today.

Just a heads-up to anyone thinking of installing the current wanamlite ICS ROM - the message app doesn't launch. Not a deal breaker for me, as I'm in-between phones and my old iphone is still the one I use for calls/texts, but it's not suitable for a daily driver imo :)

I installed this yesterday (first custom ROM I've tried), and noticed that although the messaging shortcut in the dock doesn't open, you can replace it with the standard messaging application shortcut which opens fine.

That really does sound like too much trouble to go through :p

Not only that but it turns out replacing the Mms.apk back to the Samsung one doesn't work either as an "Exchange" error occurs when trying to open an SMS or send one.

I've just fixed permissions and wiped cache/dalvilk and seeing if it was that before resorting to restoring CheckROM v6 backup.

Edit*
Now Phone doesn't work either.

Well, back we go!

Actually yeah it's bound to include it! I'm restoring my Nandroid of CheckROM v6 now and will wait until tonight before reviewing the situation further.

So far none of these custom themed Samsung ROMs have been 100% perfect. Samsung ICS is pretty much perfectly usable and workable but I like the stock ICS look and feel. Hopefully CheckROM will be both of those things.

But I'm leaning more towards AOKP after getting a taste on Hydro 1.6 :p

I'm now thinking about one of these phones i see this thread is still going strong so have a few questions.

I currently have an ipod touch and use it mainly for playing games while waiting around, browsing the net and listening to podcasts.

My question is when i move from itunes how easy is it to move my music etc?
Does it come with a Win 7 interface where I can store my music/podcasts?

Over here in Belgium mobile internet is very limited with all carriers offering only 500 MB for 10 euro per month. Does this phone automatically switch to wifi when it's detected (ie when I'm home?) I raise this question as my wife has a nokia express music with internet and when at home it failed several times to switch to wifi and ate her data it was also hard to see if it's connected to 3G or Wifi what like is the SII in this aspect?

If I'm walking around the house while downloading a 100MB podcast and go out of range will it start eating my 500MB data?

Also how easy is it to get films on it and where can I buy them. At the moment I buy films from US itunes using vouchers is something similar set up for the android?

Thanks guys,

John

Hydrogenics is so close to being perfect for me, the only difference between the ics roms I've tried seems to pretty much be the look, I haven't switched for more than 10 mins purely due to the themeing looking poor on others. They've all been perfectly stable in the short time I've used them.

AOKP is certainly the way forward for me and I don't think it'll be long before the due things lacking will be sorted once kernel sources are available.

Same, The only real standout bugs in AOKP (and CM9 naturally as it's all the same) is video recording and TV out.

Other than that, it's about as pure (but made awesome via additional tweaks) as you can get.

I've never bothered buying an MHL cable to TV out isn't an issue for me and video recording isn't something I use either. Battery life is looking good so far. I use an app called battery monitor to give estimated life + remaining and its currently sitting at 12hr total from the 9 it was at this morning. Won't know how much better it is till Monday and my weekend use age varies too much but I'll be happy with something close to what I was getting on checkrom. Will have to pick up an extended battery at some point as well when moneys not so tight.

What's the consensus on Bezke's ROM then, a quick glance of his thread reveals it to be (or sound like) a FCing mess?

It had so many FCs for me , despite doing a full wipe, that I didn't even make it through the initial phone setup routine before rebooting into recovery and trying something else lol.
