New Apple TV

Is there an speed increase in the speed it plays back when streaming! Mine at the moment can take an hour to load the film or tv show from iTunes. Where as if I stream over other software from my MacBook direct to my tv skipping apple tv it's almost instant. Makes me think of just selling my apple tv 2 and not bothering

Just use XBMC mate, only reason I have mine.

Is it simple enough to get it all on there

Its very simple, providing its still running IOS4.4 or lower. If you have recently updated it, then you will have to wait for the latest jailbreak (worth waiting).

I absolutely love my apple TV with XBMC, fantastic piece of kit.

Just waiting on the damn Jailbreak! I refuse to convert all my files so just using air play to play stuff for now via Air Video Server on my PC.

Got my new apple TV today. Much better picture and much faster. A worthy upgrade IMO. Things stream quicker as well.

I'm hopeful that XBMC will run on the ATV3 silky smooth, even on the more demanding skins.

That's if a jailbreak ever gets released for it.

atv2 is ok with aeon, not silky smooth but unless you wana nit pick its usable. i am preety sure it will be smoother on atv3

so frustrating.. I can't get 720p working properly on my JB ATV2 wth XBMC.. MKVs, MP4s... all buffer and stutter..

I think it's probably my router to be honest which is frustrating in itself. Wireless N 300mb with a usb built in for the HDD to go straight into then wired to the ATV, no reason it shouldn't be silky but it's impossible to watch.

SD content is fine :( when they JB the 3rd I'll give that a go.

yup :(

The ATV is right next to the router and the HDD is next to the router with a USB port on it so there's abour 2 meters of cable involved.

I guess it could be something to do with the HDD but there's no stutter when it's plugged into the mac mini.

How do you have it shared? SMB?

I can stream 720p content via wireless through an O2 router perfectly fine. Occasionally it buffers once a hour but that's it. It definitely must be your router.

picked up one of these yesterday, was going to get a ATV2 and jailbreak it but all sold out. Suprised they've got over here so quick, it usually takes a few months.

Main usage for now will be for AirPlay as my 5 year old Airport Express just kicked the bucket.
when/if the jailbreak comes the real fun will start and i'll get XBMC running to replace my Popcorn hour.

really impressed with the streaming performance at the moment, my MBP struggles to stream youtube at 480p but this streams the 1080p trailers straight off with no trouble.

I heard that even those these things have an A5 chip, they're single core?

Really disappointed if that's true. Saying that, the A5 must be some kind of improvement over the A4 in other ways to be able to playback 1080p smoothly - it can't all be graphics acceleration can it?
