****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Cyanogen 7.2 RC1 is out for the S2, I've posted asking if anyone can confirm HDMI out and Camcorder HD recording as the changelog only lists the Galaxy S devices for that.

If it does have those 2 then I might give it a try as they've backported a lot of ICS stuff into it. It should hold off as a stable ROM until CM9 at least anyway and reports are that it's super fast.

Ye might move to that too

You try it first? I'm all ROMd out for the day :p Only thing is, I'm less inclined to install it if the camcorder isn't stereo audio which I doubt it would be since it's not ICS!

Video recording doesn't work at all. Not sure about the other thing, don't have the cable :)

Made me realise how ugly stock 2.3 is :p

Certainly feels fast. Camera has a lot more settings, even face detect (dont think 7.1 had this?). Video camera force closes when I open it though :/

Anything you want me to try out?

odd.. its based on gb after all :O i thought ics was the one that had problems with camera.. well until the official release

Well I did a lot of ROM flashing and tinkering last night and I am now using the WanamLite V9.6 ROM, and wow it is very quick and runs brilliantly ...99% of the time.

The only slight issue I have experienced so far is that it totally locked up on me 3 times last night when tinkering with the apps or updating them in the background, the phone would totally freeze for around 20 seconds before springing back to life or it would freeze altogether until I do a reset of the phone (holding the power button for 10 seconds).

Has anybody else experienced this? It seems to be a known issue on the XDA thread but apart from other people saying make you sure full wipe etc. (which I did before installing the rom), their are no other solutions. Another solution I have just tried out is to go into CWM recovery and fix permissions so we will see how things go.

Wipe cache/dalvil/data etc is the standard response, no surprise there :p

I've not used 9.5 as I'm on stock (rooted, customised) DXLP7 with ICS theme. I'm gonna stick with this and bung JayKay mod on there when it's out and call it a day. I just can't find another ROM that is fully featured and bug free compared to this. The apps all work and I put on exactly what I want after removing the Samsung bloat.

The only app that occasionally freezes is Words With Friends but that app has always been randomly weird. Everything else is as slick as CheckROM v6 was on Gingebread on my phone really.

Anyone know how to get (google) music controls on pattern lock screen? CM7.2.

Never used either (yet) :p

Is 7.2 fully featured? HDMI/Camcorder etc?

No bugs in Hydrogen, just the already known CM issues (Camcorder not working, HDMI out not working).

I'm using the stock LP7 that Wanam applied CF-Root to but I flashed CF-Root 5.4 (LP7) as the ROM comes with LPQ kernel. There is a difference in scrolling performance between the 2.

Just a quick check guys, any of you have a Vodafone SII? I'm about to update a workmate's Vodafone handset to stock ICS LP7, it's the official release, not rooted, flashing via Odin.

Just want to confirm if anyone else has updated their branded handset and it's all been OK? Turns out my dad's Orange SII is on Orange but his handset is a retail unit and not Orange branded hence why his was AOK when i did it :p

Hmm, terrible battery life on CM7.2 RC1 compared to stock 2.3.5(4?)

9% after two hours with extended battery - only one phone call and permanently connected to wireless with full HSDPA behind it. Only had one 10 second phone call.

Usually at 60-70% after a full day (7am till 6pm) of use.

Display it at 47% and Mobile Standby at 19%. I'm on 25% brightness permanently.

Well, I went out on Saturday into town, woke up on Sunday with a huge crack in my screen and nearly cried :(.
My phone is insured but it probably doesn't cover me being an idiot, especially considering I still have no recollection of how it happened.

Replacement screen is roughly £100 from various places and I've already disassembled the phone just to see how hard the "transplant" would be, and I'm 100% confident I can perform the "operation".
So, just got to wait for my parts to arrive from the other side of the world, I may replace the housing whilst I'm at it due to a couple of marks on the metal bezel :o

I find it quite amazing that touch screen phones still have the ability to work completely with cracks in the screen :D

Yup they are quite amazing things :p how much is the housing going to set you back and where from?

I had a thought shower today, no I'm not using a PC term there, I literally had a thought during my morning shower :p

If any of us ever come into a few £million then that person should start up a small smartphone outfit, make a device that's got all the things that people post about wanting on forums, or at least as many as possible and then focus the HW around Cyanogen ROM and bring CM team onboard.

HW features like:

- A high quality camera sensor
- Minimal shutter lag
- Manual camera controls all round including for video
- High resolution high DPI screen
- Unique charging abilities
- Decent audio hardware
- No BS approach, no bloat!

Because it would be CM9+ based the software development side of things would be extremely low cost and the upshot is that you could strike a deal with CM Team so they develop CM ROMs for the device as an on the side exclusive with what they're already doing for other phones out there but this being made with CM in mind, things would be easier for them.

Someone needs to do something like that! An open source smartphone that's awesomely specced, well designed using feedback from the online community and free of any bloatware or locked down software/hardware.

It would sell by the bucketloads and could be sold cheap I guess too. Source the screen from Samsung, internals from Huawei etc.

£28 on mobilefun for the housing, apparently you can buy the housing + screen as one unit though, so I imagine I may be able to get it a bit cheaper there.

I imagine there would be a lot of licensing costs involved with producing your own handset, would be very interesting though.
Imagine if the handset market was like building your own PC. :D
