The 'Get In' section of this page can answer a lot;

The snorkling / diving, is excellent

The plugs are the same as UK - no need to to take adapters

They love the UK people.

As for the taxi, I imagine they have loads at the airport for you to flag down - book to be on the safe side / reputable company

Have been to bugibba / St Pauls twice and it's a really nice place, albeit it still looks like beirut. Also the girlfriend just got back from Sliema on Sunday and said the weather was 14-16c and lovely.

The airport is in the south west of the island and you asre in the north east, taxi wise there are cabs outside and you will probably pay around 25-30 euro's, make sure you agree on a price before as they ignore meters.

Malta in general is a island engulfed in history, being a very religious island (97% catholic) you will find a lot of churchs and cathedrals. Places you need to visit are Sliema, Valletta, Popeye Village, Meliah Bay (brilliant beach), Blue Grotto, Medina, St Georges / Julians....obviously this is from my own experience and other's may be able to add in suggestions.

Malta work on 230v british plugs still i think, unfortunately the old buses were scrapped a few eyars ago and public transport has been modernised a little which is a massive shame.

All in all Malta is a place you love or hate, the locals are lovely, friendly and very british. Food and drink are a big part of the Maltese culture, try and stick to places the locals eat in as you are guarentee'd cracking food and hospitality.

Wouldn't worry about booking a taxi in advance should be pretty friendly.

Was there with work a few years ago and ended up drinking with a bar owner and getting taken to st julians (party place) for a night and then back to the boat at 4am to face an 8am shift.

thanks guys

the plugs - that is useful if they are uk plugs fantastic

also we could get a taxi once out there then

is english spoken out there by many people?

Yeah the water there is "crystal clear", it's a Volcanic Island so there's very little sand/sediment to cloud the water.

You're getting a lot of decent tips - either way feel free to ask if there's anything else you want to know! I live here !

St Paul is close to Mellieha, Bugibba and Ghajn Tuffieha - Mellieha and Ghajn Tuffieha both have nice beaches and Bugibba has a few decent bars / restaurants. In St. pauls itself there isnt that much to see - but there are the islands if interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Paul's_Island

2

I can recommend two Italian restaurants - Dell Etna in Marsascala (run by a sicilian) and I Monelli in St. Julians

Then you can have some excellent meat at Portomaso's Buffallo Bill ... St Julians has a high concentration of bars/restaurants some of which get very good reviews. There's also Wigi's in Ballutta which has a very small menu but very good food!

3

probably will be.. especially if its a sunny day and you go lie on a beach

Most British tourists are walking around in shorts in January! So bring some warmish clothes but should be ok for light winter clothing/summer clothing

Get a taxi from the airport as they are fixed rates.

Get around the island by bus if you can to be different as they go everywhere.

I prefer to be a bit braver and hire a car. It will let you explore every nook and cranny but beware the lack of driving ability and discipline.

A visit to Gozo is a must and up with an afternoon on the beach at Ramla Bay. Make sure you stop at the Neolithic temple of Gigantija on the way to the beach.

You must visit the other Neolithic sites, you’ll find them in guidebooks.

Spend some time pottering around Valetta and you must do a Grand Harbour boat tour.

You want St Julian’s and Paceville for nightlife.

There are nice restaurants by Spinola Bay, St Julian’s.

Have fun. :)
