UK.
This is something I would really like to know, right now a GTX 680 in the US of A will set you back $499 delivered. That's £311.63 in our currency.

Why then do we have to pay £440 for the same product? £440 = $704.57

Why do we get shafted good n proper over here?

Also id like to include a poll, but no idea how to lol.

Do you think UK prices of graphics cards are a rip off?

Interesting article here - European Price of GeForce GTX 680 Will Make You Cry

Now that NVIDIA's 28nm-based Kepler GPU is official, we finally know how much money Europeans have to cough up for it.

According to the press release, the MSRP has been confirmed as £429 in the United Kingdom.

Honestly now, the US price is $499, but £429 converts into $677.51. Do shipping and border costs really add this much?

Some of our readers even told us that the price in Australia is $700. That's Australian dollars, which is the same as $725-$726 (US dollars).

As if that didn't already compound the problem, MSI's model got listed in Europe for 492 Euro.

That's right, even though $499 is the same as 375 Euro, “taxes” and whatever else lead to a rise of over 100 Euro in costs.

Considering that most boards are manufactured in Taiwan (read: there is no ocean crossing involved in shipping), we're having trouble figuring out the legitimacy of these tags. Ah well.

The yanks get charged tax on those prices, but as each states tax is different they do not list it . But it still does not account for the whole price we pay :(

its known as rip off britain for a reason, most expensive in europe for everything and the most underpaid sadly.
Until the english people stop bending over and saying "yes sir 3 more times sir thank you sir" it will always be like this, and i cant see the english people growing balls anytime soon.

Also you can reduce being shafted by shopping around. For example i have sopped using local hookers and now use asian ones. Why. They are hotter, love me long time and are cheaper. Thats right boys dont go to amsterdam and get done try thailand or china.

More than anything, because they can, and why because people here simply buy it anyway.

If Aussies/UK people stopped buying high end gpu's(and also didn't just settle and buy over inflated midrange cards), if sales actually dropped they would drop prices to increase sales.

problem with uk culture seems to be, put a price on something....... people pay it rather than just say no. There are differences in prices that can't be ignored, some countries have much higher duties on certain products, some things are very expensive to import into the US and others are stupidly cheap, we have different cheap/expensive things here.

From what I remember the import costs on screens is daft in the UK vs other countries. I also seem to recall that Samsung badge up the same monitors for sale in the UK with a much higher price because they know it will sell for more. I mean you can import £200 S23700D's from the EU, but they cost £300 here? Samsung simply say its being sold in the UK, we'll charge you £100 more for it and we'll make the extra profit not you(retailer/distributor).

As with any industry the power is with the buyer, and when they absolutely refuse to use that power, we get bad prices.

I'd imagine Nvidia/AMD are making a god damned killing on £400-450 300-350mm2 cores, a killing, bet both could sell for sub £300 with a healthy profit though something like £250 for the salvage part and £350 for the full part would give them plenty of profit and us fair prices.

The average wage in America is less so they pay less for the majority of things, other than health insurance. Therefore the price for graphics card is cheaper in the US because their average wage is less.

Where are you finding GTX 680's for 500 dollars? :D

Because consumers in the uk are impatient compulsive buyers... they'll empty their life savings if they have to, just buy an overinflated piece of turd.

lol

Although if you know any persons that own a computer shop, ask them if they can get the particular component you want at the cheapest possible price from their suppliers.
(if you know them well they'll probably do it) I've saved a bunch buying certain things that otherwise was a rip from e-tailers.

not if they marked it as "gift":D

and hope customs dont inspect it
It would have to be marked as worth only £15 (So you only be able to insure it up to £15 ;) ) if i understand the bottom line right..

2.4 Gifts

Goods sent as a gift that are over £40 in value are liable to import VAT. Customs duty also becomes payable if the value of the goods is over £135 but is waived if the amount of duty calculated is less than £9.

To qualify as a gift:
■ the customs declaration must be completed correctly
■ the gift must be sent from a private person outside the EU to a private person(s) in this country
■ there is no commercial or trade element and the gift has not been paid for either directly or indirectly
■ the gift is of an occasional nature only, for example, for a birthday or anniversary

Note: if you purchase goods from outside the EU to give as a gift to a relative or friend, whether or not addressed to that person, is treated as a ‘commercial consignment’ for which the import VAT relief threshold is £15 (paragraph 2.3 refers).
