Could not believe, what I was hearing!!

Wander in time to time for a browse...

I really don't see how they are still in business, it is always empty with staff everywhere.

Heard a few conversations with customers, where i had to grit my teeth to correct. Have heard this classics few times there 'This is 2TB so can run faster then that 1TB'.

Wow there are some seriously misinformed individuals in this thread.

Saving pensioners from evil purple shirts selling £2000 laptops (ROFL if that actually happened I'd eat my keyboard.) I worked for the company in my teens because I didn't want to sit around and claim dole like all my friends, and let me tell you that it is in no salesman's interest to sell an overpriced computer to an individual, that outstrips their needs. The sales team want to sell you extras, not an expensive computer. They want to sell you Office, Norton, services from the Tech Desk, extended warranty services and they want to do it all on finance. These are the things they are measured on, and the store gets bonuses based on those KPI's.

Like one of the few informed guys here said, if a customer rolls in with £300 to spend on the thing and wants it to do everything, what the hell are you going to tell them? They need a computer and don't want to spend more, so you either tell them they're idiots or you at least deliver the plus points of the piece of garbage e-machines unit they are salivating over.

They are SALESMEN, not TECHNICIANS.

They annoy the **** out of me!
my first real ordeal with them was when i went in to buy a TV, the guy kept going on about a gaming chip in the tv which made my PS3 somehow perform better, he couldn't explain how though :p:confused: :roll eyes:

BUT, I went in to the same store last year with my Grandma to choose her a new PC, and the guy there came over and told me to go to a website called OCUK ;) sadly, shed needed it there and then, but £400 for a reasonable i3 system wasn't too bad i thought, completely silent too :D

I had a good experience there. Went into buy a harmony remote but it was out of stock so they told me to go to other side of town to get one from there. Couldnt be arsed so went home and found old remote. Good times

Users own fault for not doing their research. I spend weeks/months researching anything expensive I'm buying.

Espically if its something I know little about.

I actually went to buy the cheapest Desktop PC they had, because i couldnt be bothered to build it (just for office, and not for me either).

So i picked up the box, walked to the till (5 meters from the door).

3 Guys stared at me for 30 seconds (they are staff).. Nobody wanted to serve me.

1 Of them complained about the other 2 being lazy.

I said "if its too much trouble i'll just get out of your way then"

Procceeded to walk towards the door, last meter guy called me to him and took my money!

I recon if i made it past the door they wouldnt have bothered chasing me and i'd got away with a Free PC :D

no one wanted to put through a cheap pc with no attachments on it. You should've legged it!

I went in there to buy a printer a month or so ago as it was the cheapest price I could find (well, the same price as online and more convenient). I noticed a sign by the printers stating that if I didn't get asked if I wanted to buy any ink with the printer, I would get the ink for free. Considering how I usually get pestered from the minute I walk through the door, I managed to pick up the printer, walk to the till and pay without being asked if I wanted any ink.

After paying, I politely said to the lady at the till that I hadn't been asked if I wanted to buy any ink and therefore can I have my free ink please? She called the manager over and I could see he was angry, cue him moaning at every single salesperson in the store as to why I hadn't been asked. I felt quite guilty but it goes to show how silly these targets are. It saved me £9.99 too :D.

Ive forgot more than the entire elite of PC world know how :D

I've never understood this phrase. I remember someone (in real life) using it on me regarding cars and my reply was "Well you've obviously forgotton a hell of a lot then, no wonder you are so **** - have you been to the doctors about your amnesia?".

This story is a non shocker. Its par for the course for PC world. The one and only PC World experience I have is when I was in urgent need of a 19" 2U rack for a stand in replace while awaiting delivery of the real replacement from our supplier

The only computer based store near my office was PC world so I thought its worth a punt.

The reply I got from the geeser in there, "sorry mate we don't sell Vinyl have you tried HMV".

I walked out confused then realised the idiot boy thought I wanted a U2 Album, its the only explanation I can think of.......

I used to work in the baby department of boots many years ago.

I knew nothing about babies.

I then worked in a bar, I knew I liked booze but knew nothing of how it was made/where it came from/the pros and cons of each one.

I also used to work in PC World. I knew absolutely nothing about PCs. I developed an interest whilst there and now I do know a bit, not all that much though.

My point is the same as everyone else in here who's said basically... what did you expect?

And the guy who's been thrown out twice like some caped moron "saving" fools from being separated from their money... cool story bro... you wouldn't have been thrown out of my store twice.

Went in a bought my dad a cheap and cheerful machine so he could start using the Internet. Went for a fairly low end machine cause honestly he wouldn't be using it for much was politely asked if I needed any help. Not wanting to sound rude I explained the situation and was promptly told the machine I wanted to buy wasn't powerful enough to use a printer (this was the parallel port days). One hard stare and raised eyebrows and he wandered off

Back in 2005 they sold my grandfather an AMD64 3800+ with SLI 6600s, he used it until last year to check e-mails when they sold him some laptop that was around £1400, he uses it to check e-mails.

Then your grandfather is either a fool or likes spending money pointlessly/doesn't like asking for something cheap. Its not like they keep the prices secret, they're clearly out for all to see so he'd know he was buying top of the range.

Also, rather than coming on a pc building forum bleating about PCW why don't you help him out?
