What film did you watch last night?

The Darkest Hour - 8/10 - I don't think that many people will like this but I was really gripped by it (not even a numb bum!).

While Alien invasions are not an original concept :D I though this one had enough new twists to keep it very entertaining and except for a few plot issues (mentioned in the spoiler above) I thought it was well executed and virtually every actor did a fantastic job of making you care about the people on screen although they battled a script that wasn't great in places.

Really odd film for many of the mentioned reasons and

It's got, not a "big" budget feel but filming in some fairly well known Russian places, ok not shutting down TimeSquare for Vanilla Sky big, but that feel to it and large shopping centre's being used, the cast, the general filming. It feels like a somewhat high quality film probably up to what, meeting the Russian guys with a horse. there is just a group of people living in an obvious place the aliens haven't gone near apparently, and hte script ouch. Everything really from that point onwards was like it was writen in a rush, filmed on a camcorder and become a dodgy scify channel made for tv movie all of a sudden.

The "I must stay and fight for Russia", it was so generic and poorly acted, going down the river, the ridiculous way they killed his friend, as said the sudden running away from the river, managing to get up a fairly high bank and run off for no reason.

Up till that meeting the rusky horse bit it was between good and passable, the last part of the film was SO awful it was a joke.

Oh, and the guy from the killing with the M16 who "thought he heard or saw(can't remember which) something so walked off down the street spraying bullets..... at nothing? It's those moments where they have a point, decent acting, decent script, decent premise then whammo, someone does something completely stupid for no reason as they obviously wanted one of their group to die at regular intervals.

WAY better than reviews/ratings suggested, terrible ending.

X-Men First Class.

7/10.

Enjoyed it as a film in its own right, totally suppressing the comics-geek in me (Angel? A woman with fairy wings?). Loved the 5 second Wolverine cameo :)

It's not the same Angel, the one from First Class is Angel Salvadore who is also known as Tempest. She is from the comics starting from the early 2000's.

Fright Night (Remake)

7/10, Pretty good for a remake, David Tennant was great but should have had more screen time.

Fellowship of the Ring. 7/10. Good but perhaps I was expecting too much or perhaps I've seen too many movies with the same style and same ingredients. Very enjoyable but didn't blow me away. Looking forward to watching Two Towers today.

I've just finished reading LotR so I'm going to pick up the trilogy on Blu Ray and give it a watch next week.

As it's the easter holidays, it's snowing, and I have nowhere else to be, I've just watched Tangled. I love it. Had a little weep at the lantern scene as usual.

Going to watch Toy Story 3 next, or maybe The Lion King... Can't decide.

We watched that the other day. I cried a bit too.

I want to watch TS3 again some time, but the monkey in the nursery freaks my daughter the eff out so she's not so keen on it.

And I'm so not fussed for the Lion King. I must be like the only person in the world that doesn't like it.

I'd like to read LOTR but don't have the patience and anyway the movies are enough for me. I've got the trilogy and am looking forward to the next two. I didn't watch the first movie in one sitting, kept starting/recommencing it after 1am and then falling asleep after an hour. :p Will probably watch all or most of two towers today. Apparently they keep getting better with the final movie having gotten all the awards.

Have ended up going with Deathly Hallows Part 2. Been a while since I've watched it.

And you don't like The Lion King? GTFO!

;)

Clash of the Titans 2010 - 6.5/10

An enjoyable movie that completely surprised me. I thought it was going to be a turd....

Immortals - 2/10

A turd, except when the immortals are fighting the titans and when the main character fights.

Utterly forgettable.

Return of the King, is generally regarded as the weakest. I think a lot of the Oscars it won, were for the trilogy as a whole. Fellowship of the Ring, is generally regarded as the best of the three. That obviously won't be the same for everyone. The Two Towers, is my favourite of the three.

Not everyone likes them though. There's probably a fair few who don't, and certainly a fair few people who have read the books, don't like them either.

Having read the books, I think Jackson did a fantastic job.

Well, I hope Fellowship doesn't turn out to be the best, because although it's good, I'm hoping for better. I suppose I might have been wowed more had I seen these movies back in 2001 -2003.
