They were killed in the books as well, the baby was killed by Janos Slynt iirc or maybe he just ordered it, can't quite remember. Was Slynt a new character for season 2? He played a big part in (season 1 spoilers)
Ned's execution
in the book but I cant remember if he was in the show.

Wasn't it Ser Ilyn who did the deed?

Slynt was in season one - plain old Janos Slynt then, now Lord Janos Slynt for his good work securing Joffrey's throne.

Why are people talking abou season 2 in the "Game of thrones" thread?

edit: Just checked IMDB, erm - so they are sticking with "Game of Thrones" for the entire show, even though the show follows the books?

Because Season 2 premiered in the UK 2 days ago, some people watched it and then wished to discuss it on an internet forum.

Ahhh rite funny man, try and comprehend what I'm asking mmkaaay?
A game of thrones was only the first book in the series of "A song of Ice and Fire"

Yeah, if you change the name of your show every series your more casual audience might forget to watch it. Besides there are supposed to be chunks of Book 3 in this series and 'Mostly Clash of Kings with some bits of Storm of Swords' is a lousy name for a Tv show.:p

:D

Sorry I spoiled your setup for potential moment of nerd trivia correction :p

The television series is called A Game of Thrones anyway, despite it's source material being called "A Song of Ice and Fire" :)

In all seriousness though, it's probably much easier to keep all discussion in this one thread rather than creating one per television series season.

The series however is called 'Game of Thrones', it would likely confuse people who haven't read the book if they were to keep changing the name.

They could easily have done what the Spartacus series does and keep the main name but have a second title:

eg. SPARTACUS - Blood and Sand
SPARTACUS - Vengeance

Surely they could do the same:

GAME OF THRONES - *book name*

etc.

The series is called Game of Thrones. The series of books is a Song of Ice and Fire.

They won't rebrand the series, they'll just keep it as is.

SPARTACUS - Vengeance

Surely they could do the same:

GAME OF THRONES - *book name*

I don't see why they'd change it now. They made that decision before they brought the first one out.

Avoiding using the book titles probably gives the shows writers more artistic lattitude to move key events around or depart from the novels completely if they feel the need.
They might not get funding to make 5 seasons and have to wrap things up in some kind of ending prematurely after all.

But Game of Thrones is the first book name and the second season encompasses both the second and third book.

So you'd have 'A Game of Thrones: A Game of Thrones' and 'A Game of Thrones: Clash of Kings & Storm of Swords'

Bit of a mouthful for anyone but die hard fans of the books :p
